Dear FReeper FRiends,
My son has recently found that out that he has lymphoma. He underwent surgery today and they completely removed one of his lymph nodes. It will be sent off for more tests to find out exactly what kind of cancer it is and how to treat it. It was first thought he had thyroid cancer, however, that's not being considered anymore.
I am in Texas and he is in San Diego at the Balboa Naval Medical Center. He was stationed on the USS George Washington and they were underway when he discovered the lump in his thyroid. They hit port in Australia and he was flown back to Japan they did few more tests and then he flew to San Diego where he is now. His wife is from there and he has in-laws and other relatives in SD. He is a very strong, courageous and capable young man.
We've also recently found out that he and his wife have their first baby on the way.
I've never been one to post on the prayer threads, but I do read them and I do pray for the individuals and their families. I believe whole-heartedly in the power of prayer.
Please pray for my son's speedy recovery.
Amen to all the wonderful prayers on this thread. Father, You said You would lead us in Your triumph in Christ Jesus. I pray that You would lead this precious servant in Your triumph by Your Holy Spirit of Truth as he overcomes this attack of the enemy. Show him Your plan for victory. We appreciate this gift of wisdom and Your great love for him in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Prayers for your son’s recovery and for your comfort.
I will keep your son in my prayers and thoughts.
Prayers
Know this;
Mal 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
Wishes for your beloved son.
You and your son have my prayers.
Adding my prayers for your son
Prayers up!
FReepmail me if you want my cancer protocol. I am in remission from multiple myeloma, an “incurable” cancer. I’m still on dialysis (that’s how severe the cancer was) but I feel terrific-— better than before I knew I was sick.
Praying for your dear son.
I just prayed for your son. He is now on my prayer list. I will pray for him over the next week. I am sorry you all are going through this. Trust in the power and mercy of God; the faith of a mustard seed...
More thanks to all of you! I talked to Al today. His spirits were up and he is recovering from the surgery very well. They let him go home. His next appointment is not till the 10th of August. They wanted to be sure all the tests were in so they could give him a definitive diagnosis and know exactly what his treatment will be.
I sent them a link to this thread so he and his wife could see how many really great people were praying for them and thanking him for his service to our country.
When he was on USN 73, there was a nasty fire that started in his department. After the investigation, many people were booted off the ship in one capacity or another. My son and just one other guy in the department were the only ones who did not get replaced.
I’m very proud of him.
I will keep you all posted on his condition.
Thanks again for all the prayers.
Offering prayers for your son’s complete recovery.
Also for his wife and expected child.
Joining in with prayers up for your son, his wife and baby on the way...as well as all concerned with his health and well being. ((HUGS)) to you.
Please know that they have an army of prayer warriors out here for them....and for you.
Nana
prayers continue
Lord, I really want to pray for this young man and his family. It is so hard to deal with an illness, when you are young, but also when you have a family depending on you. I pray that you would give this young man courage and strength. I pray that you would heal this man. That you could find it in your mercy and kindness to just stretch out your hand and touch this man, with your healing power. I pray that this illness would be used for your glory, that this young man would be moved into a wonderful understanding and relationship with you, because of the illness. That he would depend totally on you, and be filled with your saving grace and knowledge. Thank you Lord for the opportunity to pray to you, in the name and by the power of the blood of Jesus Christ. Amen
Prayers on the way that your son be healed quickly and completely.
Al called me tonight and he found out today that he has Burkitt’s Lymphoma. It’s a fast growing non-Hodgkin’s cancer, but it has a high survival rate. He’ll be starting the chemo in a couple of days.
He said his lymph nodes are swelling from his shoulders to his ears. The doctor told him that most times, within days of starting his treatment those will go down.
Please continue to keep him and his wife, Lauren, in your thoughts and prayers.
I apologize if I missed anyone in this ping.
While this isn’t the worst we could expect, it’s not the best, either. Still a “90% survival rate” when treated.
I don’t know what stage it’s in, yet. I don’t know if they told him, yet, either. I forgot to ask, but this is my first dealing with cancer this close. I wouldn’t know what to ask, anyway.
They’ve been running tests tests and more tests. He says he’s been poked prodded and stuck so many times he’s getting used to it.
He’ll most likely start the chemo in the next few days. He got the port installed yesterday. He had a bone marrow scan and also a brain scan yesterday. They may end up doing a spinal tap (?) He said the bone marrow thing hurt worse than anything so far. I just hope that it’s in the early stages so it’s not in his bone marrow. I guess he’ll find out the results of that soon.
This is really so surreal. He and Lauren are doing their best to make light of it. Bless their hearts.
I really hope the baby coming will be able to take their minds off this whole cancer thing.
They’ve told him he’s kind of on an extended leave from the Navy till his treatment gets on a schedule. After that, he says it’ll probably be light duty in San Diego.
This is probably the fastest moving cancer there is, so says his doctors. He’s anxious to get the treatment started.
Thank you all for your continued prayers.
Prayers lifted for you all, that God may hold you safe, in his strengthening embrace, FRiend.
