Sorry, I overgeneralized.
Met a nice Mass. couple running a table at a gun show here in South Carolina. They talked like political refugees.
I said why dontcha’ move here and they sadly replied their New England roots ran too deep for that.
Thanks for the info!
“...I’m not sure if I remember hearing about Mary Jo Kopechne’s death...”
I remember Life Magazine’s coverage where they did the spin for Kennedy and made much of how dangerous “that damn bridge” was without guardrails. Of course nobody else had ever put their car in the drink from that bridge.
That's pretty much my attitude as well.I grrew up here,my family is all here and I'm comfortable with the area. Not with the *people* but with the *area*.Also, there's no way that I could take the summers there.I once went to Florida in October and thought I was gonna die from the humidity. And I like to live in a place that has four seasons.
Actually we have four seasons in S.C. but almost no snow; when it does snow (no accumulation) they close the schools and all the milk and bread disappears from store shelves.
Summers can be hot although this is the mildest July I’ve seen in years (85 today’s high); I think the whole global warming artifice is collapsing under the evidence.
No family here but I like the people; I hear `please’ and `thank you’ several times daily.
Interesting, isn’t it? But then, Teddy might have been elected President, too, and I shudder to consider that possibility.
Actually, the majority is not that great.
The largest political party in Massachusetts (among voters) is the unenrolled Party.
This idiot Cahill who wants to run for Governor next year has recently declared himself a member of the unenrolled Party.
The unmitigated audacity of this POS who has reached the pinnacle of his political career as a Democrat operative presumes that this small redefinition will insure him some sort of traction among thinking persons who already realize that the 2 political party system stinks.
There are a lot more conservative thinking types in Massachusetts than one might surmise from media reports.
The next 2 election cycles promise to be of great interest.
I don't know how long you've lived here but I,a lifelong resident, know that this means nothing. It's just a quirk. Here, the proof is in the pudding.
When was the last time the Republican nominee for the Presidency got more than 40% of the vote here? Wasn't it '84? When was the last time Teddy or Kerry got less than 60% of the vote here? When was the last time a *solid* Republican was elected Governor? Exactly how many Republicans have we sent to DC in the last 20 years? How many did we send last year?
I assume you're catching my drift here.
Are *all* residents of this state filthy scumbags? Certainly not.Can the majority...a *solid* majority....of this state's residents be classified that way?
It seems to me that the folks in the area I know are not all mindless liberal dingbats.
Liberals do abound, and I no longer see things changing until some new watershed event comes along.
Still, Obama’s tenancy at 1600 Pennsylvania is likely that crossroad which will determine the direction that our children's lives will driven.
If he survives this term, or gets another, I'd say that it is all over for the USA.
You may be right about folks here but we shall see what happens.
