ABC's 'Cougar Town': 'Under-dressed Divorcées Prowling for Younger Men' (MSM Perversion Alert)

Looking for some wholesome entertainment to share with the kids this fall?

Well, don't turn on ABC at 9:30 PM (8:30 CST), for in that prime time slot will be a new sit-com called "Cougar Town."

Yep, you guessed it: another show about mature divorced women seeking men half their age for -- ahem -- dates.

One glimpse at the following sexually charged preview, along with ABC's own description of the show, should give readers all they need to know. For major league barf CLICK HERE.

Can a woman of a certain age be a mom, a successful career woman and still be on the prowl? Jules Cobb (Courteney Cox) is about to give it a try.

In a small Florida town, the center of high society is the Cougars high school football team... which is wildly appropriate since this town is the natural habitat for over-tanned, under-dressed divorcées prowling for younger men. Jules desperately doesn't want to be one of them, but with an ugly divorce behind her and 40 staring right back at her, she's longing for a little more action in her life. The available men her own age, like her silver fox of a neighbor, Grayson Ellis, only seem interested in dating barely legal hotties. Egged on by her very married and very irreverent best friend Ellie and her determined assistant Laurie, Jules reluctantly dips her toe back into the dating pool. To her surprise, she hits it off with a nice young guy named Matt -- emphasis on the young -- and discovers this gal still has the goods.

Co-executive produced by Courteney Cox and Bill Lawrence (Scrubs), Cougar Town is the single-camera comedy that dares to tell the truth about dating after divorce. Juggling a teenage son with her thriving career and budding love life isn't easy, but before you know it, Jules will have you cheering, "Go Cougars!"

Yeah, with a son that just turned 21, that's exactly what I'll be cheering.

After all, a 40-something divorcée with several children and limited moral fiber is exactly what I want for my son.

Don't you?

Yeah, and how did Jack respond to Lana? It was portrayed as Lana being somewhat of a nutjob, and Jack finding her... how do I say this, repulsive perhaps.

That wasn’t what’s going to be portrayed here.

I hate to say this, but I checked out the 3 minute preview the article linked to, and laughed my arse off. Speaking of “Perversion Alerts,” have you checked out any of the “Not guilty” or “I’d hit that” threads? We could be a little more family friendly around here.

And I don’t laugh my arse off at the Not guilty and I’d hit that threads.

Disappointed to see Bill Lawrence (Scrubs) involved. Scrubs was one of my favorite shows and had one the absolute best final episodes/scenes ever....right up there with last episode/scene of “Dead Like Me”.

Ok, let's sing: "I want a girl, just like the girl, that married dear old dad...."

When I was in my 20's, I met a woman who was 41, divorced a year, and who had a son a little younger than I was. We hit it off at a meeting of some kind, and went out a few times after that. She could cook, had a great outlook on life, and was a lot of fun. After we went out a few times, she went to a high school reunion, met a guy from her class, and married him. When I saw her years later, she told me that getting and keeping the attention of a younger guy was a great confidence builder for her, and that our time together made her feel like a woman again. So it worked out.

Would I want my own kid going out with someone 15 years his senior? Not when he's 15! But I've seen successful relationships where the woman is older than the guy (40/26, for example), and it can work. But putting it up on tv and making the women out to be whores does women a severe injustice, and reduces the relationships to romps in the sack with a stud.

That being said, were I ever to be placed "on the market" again, I wouldn't spend my time with women in their 20's. Probably not even 30's. I'd take a divorcee in her 40's with something to prove...

It has been suggested that cougars and prostitutes actually serve a biological function much like sterile screwworm flies. That is, they provide an outlet for males who shouldn’t reproduce, and “clear the field” for young men and women who should reproduce.

Young women who want to have children are caught on the horns of a dilemma. Biologically, they want a male who is the best sperm donor, but they also want a male who will be a good provider, to help them raise their children. And when there are a lot of males around, these are usually not the same man.

So when cougars and prostitutes enter the picture, they help remove the inferior males from the gene pool. And in many cases, they likewise are not the best potential mothers around.

Cougar seems to me to be the buzzword for older slut. If you’re talking a lady who’s in her 40’s who happens to hit it off with someone younger that’s different.

I think applying the term to every woman one thinks is ‘old’ is just not right.

Everytime ABC has a decent and interesting show, they cancel it, and replace it with a piece of crap like this.

The Unusuals; Life On Mars; Cupid; just to name three recent casualties of their programming department.

Makes me wonder when The Goode Family is going to get the axe.

As for CBS, no more The Unit, either.

I guess I don’t understand the big deal? I’ve seen older women with younger men all of my life? One of my uncles married a woman 15 years older than he, my GrandMother’s second husband was 12 years younger than her, etc. Why is it no one said much when it was 70yo men marrying 20 yo women? I just don’t get why it’s such a big deal?

This is nothing new. I'm 32 right now. Back in my 20's, just about every person I dated was older than I was. None were in their 40's or true "cougars" in this sense, but some were 12 years older than me, which is a bit of an age difference when I am 23. I acted older for my age, and that had something to do with it. Airheadedness was and is a very quick turnoff with me.

Right now, I'm seeing someone so I'm not looking, but I have a large age range that I consider. 25-45. I'm picky on a lot of things, but not age. That's not set in stone, but is a general range. Someone who still has their looks (and many in their 40's still do), but also has an understanding of the real world.

LOL. I remember that show. It was on syndication when I was growing up. I was not allowed to watch that or Miami Vice.

Miami Vice quickly became one of my favorite shows too....

Your son's 21. You should ask him what HE wants.
