I remember ole Jim. He had Osama Bin Laden chained up in his basement with a goat and he used to let that old billy goat have his way with osama and he charged admission so others could watch.

JimThom and I have been friends going back to when he worked as a Slurpee Jerk at the Dubuque 7-11 in Iowa. We spent many an hour discussing racist politics and trying to figure out our favorite Slurpee flavor combinations. It was the best of times, it was....oh well...it just was.....

Perhaps we should also have one for David Howowitz, that consumer advocate who wrote Radical Son?

I saw Jim Thompson kick the DaiklyKook founder Markos Zuniga in the balls once. Apparently it didn’t affect markos because he had no balls.

I met Jim Thompson once. He was a spare man; that is, there were eight men threshing the dill-weed, and Jim (JayTee, he said his name was) was the spare.

The threshing of the dill-weed went on for a time, and then four of the men broke away and began mangling some daffodils that had burst nearby. JayTee (Big Jim, he preferred to be called) sat on the Mangle and regaled us with Nestorian Chants.

The other four men took a break from dill-threshing, and packed their pipes with pitch. The noisome pitchsmoke combined with the Nestorian noise, and Big Jim (MAJOR Thompson, he insisted) gave over in favor of somnambulic iambic quadrameter. “Better than sonnets,” quoth he.

I never saw him again, but sometimes wonder, when I smell a road-crew or see odd verses graffitti-like on juxtaposed crenellations, whether he has been about, and in what guise.

Jim Thompson is a character, some say. Rumours about his personal life abound, and he is particularly famous for his skill in carving Matryoshka dolls.

I believe he lives alone with his beloved bloodhound, Crockett.

I remember reading about Jim Thompson. He was at the signing of the Declaration of Independence. He went on to form a railroad monopoly, and singlehandedly conquered the West with a six-gun and some tobacco chaw. When he finally settled in Detroit, he formed Jim Thompson Motors, which was bought eventually by the Ford brothers. He left the CEO position in Ford Motor Company after creating the Model T, and then flew with the Wright Brothers in the back of their first plane. His presence helped the plane fly due to him being at the precise right ballast position. Then he went on to improve Marconi’s radio, making this invention possible. Stopping off briefly to invent dynamite, the Gatling Gun, the television, and the Polio Vaccine (you’ve all heard of Dr. Jonas Thompson, I’m sure), World War II was upon us. Jim Thompson singlehandedly won World War II, coming home briefly to invent the nuclear weapon. He then went on to head NASA for the Apollo program. Finding himself bored, he founded CNN, MTV, and developed the F117 Stealth Aircraft.

Then he began to get busy. It is said he can launch satellites by pitching them into orbit, and if you listen quietly on silent moonlight nights, you can hear him, softly calling, “Liiiibertyyyy..... liiibertyyyy....”

Jim Thompson still owes me $5 and two old issues of Playboy I lent him back in 1978.
