Ordering an espresso beverage can be intimidating. It may seem like everyone but you knows the lingo. They rattle off long and complicated drink orders without taking a breath.
Ill have a double tall decaf breve latte, easy foam, one Splenda. Double cupped.
There could be many reasons why you have not yet been assimilated into the coffee culture. Perhaps you're more of a tea drinker. Perhaps you usually like the ice blended drinks, but today you want something hot. Or maybe four dollars for a drink always seemed excessive, until your boss gave you that Starbucks gift certificate.
Whatever the reason, today youre going to break out of your box and try one of those coffee drinks that everyone else seems addicted to. (Thats it. Come to the dark side.) Unfortunately, you dont know a cappuccino from a latte.
Never fear.
A cappuccino is equal parts of espresso, steamed milk, and velvety milk froth. Usually the milk is bubblier in a cappuccino.
A latte is also espresso with steamed milk, but with much less milk froth on top. The froth on a cappuccino is part of the foundation of the drink, whereas on a latte, its almost like a condiment.
Can't remember which is which? Just look at the word cappuccino. It has three cs and is a drink of thirds espresso, milk, and froth. On the other hand, latte is short for caffé latte, Italian for coffee with milk.
Why dilute good coffee with milk?
Any of you freepers want to experience the difference between Lattes and Capaccinos, come into Doug’s Mugs Coffee about 3 miles off of I-75 around Tanger Mall in Locust Grove, Georgia. It is a freeper owned business. :-)
I agree. I love my coffee and espresso straight up. I also love them combined as a “shot in the dark” or a straight Americana. Good stuff.
“Why dilute good coffee with milk”
Whiter teeth, of course.
Coffee
Milk
Here are the ingredients from your typical instant machine at the local choke & puke:
sugar, nondairy creamer (corn syrup solids, partially hydrogenated coconut oil, sodium casemate, dipotassium phosphate, sodium tripolyphosphate, monoglycerides, datem, sodium silicoalumnate (an anticaking agent), artificial flavor), diary product solids, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, sodium caseinate, mono- and diglycerides, dipotassium phosphate, and sodium aluminosilicate (an anticaking agent), instant coffee, silicon dioxide (an anticaking agent), salt, cellulose gum and artificial flavor. Contains milk and soy ingredients.
Yea! I'm WITH ya on that!
I gather you wouldn’t want sugar on good coffee either ?
With you on the cream. I also like cafe con leche, which is half really strong coffee and half steamed milk. Cuban coffee like you get in Miami is heaven.
My sentiments, exactly!

Perhaps you are more of a beer drinker who cannot let the word "latte" pass from your lips in speech, let alone in a belch.
‘silicon dioxide’ aka sand. YUMMMMMM!
Tried putting milk in my coffe one time but I think the Jack Daniels made it curdle!
Hey, anybody who drinks a “cappuccio” after 10 AM is obviously a freak!
