Need Wrinkle Advice from FReeper Sisters
me | July, 11, 2009 | me

OK FReeperettes, I need some help.

It’s finally happened, just as I knew it would… my face is starting to show my age. Quickly.

I knew it would happen just like this. Every woman ages the same in my mother’s family and apparently, I’m no exception. They get seriously carded, their husbands get flack for being with a teenager, nobody believes their teenagers belong to the - until about 40.

Then BOOM! Their faces crater. They go from easily passing for 21 to looking 45 within a few months and it all happens around 40. Doesn’t matter if they smoke or moisturize or how much sun they get. The timing is never off.

I’m almost 40 and for the last month I’ve noticed the dark circles under my eyes getting darker, my skin starting to slack, and my pores starting to enlarge. I don’t have many fine lines; however, if genetics hold true, the wrinkle brigade will be in full force by next summer.

But I will NOT go gracefully into that good night! It’s too early for a facelift (plus I’m a big chicken), so I’m looking for a good face cream. I already moisturize, so I’ve got that going for me, but I need something to fight the dark circles under my eyes and something that firms and tones the skin and reduces pores.

There are literally thousands of products out there. I’d like to find out what’s worked for you. Point me in the right direction my conservative sisters! Tell me where to put my money!

(One thing. I can’t use Retin A. I have some permanent burn scars from using that crap for only two weeks a decade ago.)

I need some advice myself, rather urgently, bald spot advice, it’s getting bigger and bigger. How do I stop it?

perhaps you can get your doctor to prescribe Avodart... it's a medication for enlarged prostate--but is supposed to be better than propecia when it comes to blocking hair loss..

Let's not forget the really important part..your heart and your amazing positive outlook on LIFE! You are a FReeper after all! May the LORD Bless you!

My 79 year old Mother had a skin cancer removed from her face just a few months ago. It was right under her eye next to her nose. It required 20 stitches! The Plastic Surgeon told her to apply Vaseline for 6 weeks and to wash with Dove Soap for Sensitive Skin.

The cancer was basal cell which was OK for cancers but my Mom is a smoker so she didn't think she would ever leave the house again with this scar on her face..Fast forward..No scar!

The Doctor told her to keep using the Dove and Vaseline (She has always spent Thousands of Dollars on the latest beauty miracles) Her Doctor said women don't believe him when he tells them it is that easy.. wash your face with Dove and then apply Vaseline.. It works!

The incision was the size of a half dollar and very deep. Now it is like She never had any kind of surgery and her skin looks great! My Mom's only regret is that she did not find this Doctor sooner!

No I’ve seen it at Wal Mart and on internet sites but I get it at GNC. Different brands have different concentrations. I think there may be a prescription cream but I use regular off the shelf stuff.

My doctor just started me on 1000iu of Vitamin D. Another doctor told me they are checking everyone for Vitamin D deficiency now and most are deficient.

Well I’m just “clutching my pearls” and saying I can’t put Vaseline on my face! But my mother’s doctor (she’s 80) has told her to use Dove Soap for Sensitive Skin so there must be something to that.

You can try hypnosis...have the hypnotist plant the suggestion that you will forever be 39, maybe the power of suggestion in your family is causing the droops...:O(

By the time your 70, you won't give a dam..

it soaks in fine. I didn’t care for the smell.

Interefers with my cologne and for what I pay I’d rather have that scent

I’ve been told by a number of women that coconut oil is a very good moisturizer. It’s also a very good lubricant. ;-)

Doris Day used vaseline and she has been gorgeous for a loooong time. If it works for her, maybe I have a shot! LOL!

I have *massive* vit D deficiency. I find it funny how much advice is to “stay out of the sun!” - which I did. Now my dr is telling me to nude up and sunbathe three times a week.

I’ve heard of using Dawn for burn victims.

I had a teacher years ago who was badly burned in a car accident. He told a story about his wife finding out that the hospital charged $25 dollars a bottle for the stuff to clean his wounds and insisted on opening a new bottle every day. (And this was in the early 80’s!)

She went to the store, bought a case of it for less than 75 cents a bottle and insisted that they use that!

It’s funny. I don’t mind being 40 at all. (I’ve actually been looking forward to it for a very long time.) I just don’t want to *look* 40 yet! LOL!

And yes, I am looking forward to the day when I don’t give a damn! lol!

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this yet, I haven’t read through the posts, but always always always use sunscreen. All seasons, anytime you are going to be outside, even walking to the car. If you smoke, stop. Smoking and sun exposure are the two biggest skin agers.
