Vinegar is a fat buster
The Times of India ^ | 7 Jul 2009 | IANS

The vinegar used to garnish salad dressings, pickles and other foods, may live up to its folk reputation as a fat buster and health promoter.

Japanese researchers Tomoo Kondo and colleagues noted that vinegar has also been used as a folk medicine since ancient times, for a range of illnesses.

Modern research suggests that acetic acid, the main component of vinegar, may help control blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and fat accumulation.

Their new study showed that lab mice fed a high-fat diet and given acetic acid developed significantly less body fat (up to 10 percent less) than other mice, said an American Chemical Society (ACS) release.

Importantly, the new research bolsters evidence that acetic acid fights fat by turning on genes for fatty acid oxidation enzymes.

The genes churn out proteins involved in breaking down fats, thus suppressing body fat accumulation in the body.

These findings were published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.

Hey, us gardeners miss you and your input!

Did not know you were battling Lyme!

My wife's sister is still recovering from an almost deadly bout of West Nile Virus. Shreveport area. She was bitten and hospitalized a little more than three years ago. Just devestated her life but she is doing well now - still has a few aches and pains though.

It can be excreted at the site of absorption, i.e., the intestines. The article I read referred to acetic acid’s ability to disturb sugar/starch digestion.

A friend of mine’s father has been drinking a glass of apple cider vinegar a day for years, and has never had high cholesterol. He swears by it.

I think the red vinegar is the good stuff. I love balsamic on salad.

The red vinegar also helps with sunburns though aloe is probably better.

There is no mechanism in the body for the excretion of fat. I say this as someone with a Ph.D. in human nutrition/nutritional biology.

I mean, if someone tested human stool for the presence of fats, would the tests prove negative? That is, does the body completely absorb all fats that the digestive system encounters? I can see this feature would have proven itself useful during times of starvation.

Look up Apple Cider Vinegar, unfiltered and unpasteurised health benifits. A little dab will do you according to the promoters.

Don’t forget, alcohol is a disinfectant!

Think of all the gastrointestinal bacteria that die horrible deaths when that shot of ice cold Stoli hits the ol’ gut!

;^)

If you like straight Stoli, try the new chocolate flavored vodkas! They go down best at room temp, BTW.

Unless one has some sort of small bowel disease, absorption of nutrients is almost 100 percent. That's why is usually so easy to put on weight. It's possible to eat a huge fatty meal and have some fat make it through in the stools, but this isn't the case in normal intestinal function. And some of the fats seen in the stool may come from intestinal bacteria making short chain fatty acids that are necessary for maintaining gut health.

“Alcohol is a solvent therefore drinking copious amounts of vodka gimlets or your favorite adult beverage should clean out your arteries”

It does. HOWEVER, the problem is: those of your blood vessels that don't have any buildup (eg: small ones like those in the brain) will have their walls eroded and weakened, leading to.....
Stroke.

Therefore, keep it moderate: 1/2 bottle wine; or 4 beers; or 2 mixed drinks per day.
