Get Over it, Sarah is gone as a National Candidate
vanity | 7-5-09 | Bob J

Posted on 07/05/2009 10:24:13 AM PDT by Bob J

Sarah is now unelectable on a national stage. The “quitter” specter will hang around her neck like “swimmer” does to Ted Kennedy.

You’ll be able to spot the realistic, clear thinking conservatives because they see and admit this early so we can put it behind us get on with identifying the candidates who can win in ‘12.

BTW - This doesn’t rule out a tangential private career ala Newt or a run for a House or Senate seat (although I don’t know where at this point) but as a national candidate she is toast.

That so many conservatives can’t see this is one of the reasons we lose so often...in campaigns and ideology.

It’s quite sad but something I’ve learned to live with. At one point I thought the conservative cause in this country could be galvanized around solid principles, sober and realistic goals and turned into an effective winning strategy and movement. But I’ve come to realize too many voluntarily ignore the ugly realities of politics and put their faith in Hail Mary passes, and frankly, are just too lazy for the time and effort needed to bring this country back to where they profess they want it to be.

I am amused (in a punched in the belly sorta way) by those on the right who are so quick to call SP a quitter and to seek to take her out of the game. I believe that they are projecting their own lack of faith and fortitude onto Sarah. She is conducting her fight the way she sees fit. It will be interesting (to me at least) to see what she does next.

I am also somewhat distressed to see some righties elevating SP to a similar messianic level that we criticize about Obamination. No, she is not infallible, and (sorry about that) she is not invincible.

I see a lot of mental masturbation trying to divine what her plans are - why not relax a bit and watch & see?

I guess it’s more fun to criticize...

"the lack of political understanding among so many conservatives"

Lack of understanding? Bite me, pal. Maybe some have moved beyond the vested interests of your wholesale politics.

Looking for money?

Next "Bob J" will be calling us "the GOP base" and asking us to support "a viable candidate" like - oh, I don't know - Chuck Grassley.

Even if Sarah does absolutely nothing, she has been an asset. It is the greatest fun watching the Dim Dems spin in circles at her every move. I have this vision of a 'Sarah War Room' in the White Crib on 24 hour watch - wasting their resources.

Thanks Sarah!

Nonsense...it would be irresponsible of her to stay on a job when she is interviewing for another...particularly when that interview process is a 24/7 commitment

You will get hammered for your opinion which I agree with in regards to being elected on a national level.

That said I don’t know what her future plans entail and I’m not sure she does at this stage. But I do believe she can be an effective force via some national efforts which won’t be with her name on the ballot. Speaking, national organization promoting conservative ideas/candidates, fund raising, front person to challenge the democrats, etc, are some ways I think she could be effective and productive.

She stands at the crossroads of her future and it’s her decision which we really don’t have a clue about just yet.

I wonder about the motivation of anyone who would go to the trouble to make such a post. So little time has passed since her announcement, are comments like yours simply “wishful thinking” on the part of the commentator?

Anything you say here obviously will have no effect on the success or failure of Sarah Palin, so your post reminds me of the old saying: “Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt”

Ted Kennedy ran for president in 1980 and lost to Carter. Kennedy blew his interview with Roger Mudd in late 1978 and really couldn’t recover. In fact, CBS gave Kennedy two Roger Mudd interviews (they shelved the first one) and the idiot blew the second one.

Full attention should be on utterly destroying the socialist-obama-msm machine. Palin can contribute mightily to that effort even if she does not run for office. For instance, she can megaphone the grotesque corruption and collusion of Obama and GE/NBC with regards to “Global Warming”. She can lead the coming roar against irresponsible spending, high taxes, fraud and media malpractice. She can lead the charge against the corrupt elites in both parties that are busy ruining the US.

She can talk about Obama and Ayers without some back-stabbing filth like Steve Schmidt or RINO punks trying to rein her in.

“but let’s admit the political realities of the situation and move on to more fruitful endeavors.”

____________________________________________________________

I cannot think of any more important fruitful endeavor than taking back our country, which is exactly what Sarah Palin is trying to do.

It’s way too early to speculate that this will result in failure for her. The possibility is there, yes, but there is also a chance that her endeavors yield a ton of fruit: conservatism becomes the norm again, we get our country back, and Palin unseats Obama as President.

She’s chosen a pretty ripe moment to take her stand. The old media is becoming increasingly unpopular and untrustworthy, which is allowing the new media to gain in credibility; she will use the new media to communicate, as well as local news and newspapers. The political class is in the same boat; most of the electorate detest those in D.C., and will cheer and support the one leader daring to take them on.

It’s obviously the most unorthodoxed path any potential candidate has ever chosen, which is why so many can’t grasp their minds around it. To those who say “she can’t do it” and “she won’t win” are those who have become so accustomed to playing by the same, old, tired rulebook. Sarah just tore that up. Just because it’s never been before in our history, does not mean that it cannot be done.

As much as I detest Obama, he defied the odds and took on the Clinton and DCL machine and literally destroyed it. His machine neutered the Clintons and the DCL. Although he replaced it with a much more corrupt machine, the point is, he succeeded.

Now comes a woman who watched women before her try to reach that brass ring by using the same conventional path that has worked so well for men. It has not worked well for women, and perhaps Sarah knew she had to write new rules for her to break that ceiling.

Luckily, she has gained a lot of supporters willing to help her. I suspect that as she progresses and gains a few victories, more of the naysayers will come around. For now, it’s just her vision and some willing supporters. And I’m proud to say I’m one of them.

This kind of talk is not going to help Conservatives a bit. If Sarah Palin is finished politically, that’s for the voters to decide, and by voters, I mean the ones that actually would vote for ANY conservative. If she stays the favorite of Conservatives and keeps the conservative base focused, then she will be doing us a great favor. When another Conservative rises up to take her place because he/she is more “electable” then WE decide whether we abandon Palin or not.

We got our butts kicked last year because people outside the GOP and far from conservatism told us which of our candidates was “electable”.

Well, we all know how that ended. He wasn’t electable. The left and the fence-sitters and the press did not flock to his side because of his “moderate” stand. We were suckered. Liberals and left-leaning independents do not vote for Conservatives in today’s political climate. Conservatives and right-leaning independents do not vote for a Marxist—EVER!

If Palin can justify our faith in her through her actions over the next 2 years, then she deserves our votes in 2012 if she decides to run.

If she just turns into another single-issue pundit, then she’ll make a great lobbyist, political analyst, whatever. If she turns into another “go along to get along” beltway type that will say or do anything to get invites to the right parties, then she’s dead to me.

But I’m waiting to see what she does next before I decide if she’s dead yet.

I don't think she's gone "forever", but I don't think 2012 is realistic for her now. She's still a very young woman, much like Nixon when he lost to Kennedy. She could easily reemerge as a legitimate contender in 8 to 12 years.

But, without a blue-chip education, and without a complete first-term as Governor, and only the experience of governing of a very sparsely populated state (smaller than the city of Austin, TX) she would get crushed by Obama, even if the economy doesn't get any better.

On election day, 60% of the country didn't think she was prepared to be VP. That's not going to improve with just 10 additional months of gubernatorial experience. And, with the exception of Iowa, I don't think she'd really do very well in the primaries.

Palin had a tremendous amount of potential, but for the foreseeable future, she has sidelined her political career. And, I'm not entirely unconvinced that's just not what she wanted.

This is just elitist rino BS......folks that got us in this mess we’re in now. Ignore it...... Sarah gets my vote till she proves shes as unworthy as Mitt and McPain etc .....

I doubt very seriously she will do such but I trust no polidiot or their handlers. Watch em like 2 year old kids as they can make a mess if not supervised and monitored 24/7.

She’s going. That is to say, she’s running. I’m like the late, great John Blutarsky. I may be psychotic, but I am absolutely right.

Murder doesn’t equate to resigning.

There have been 3 female governors who have resigned in the last 5 months.

Sarah just happens to be the famous one.

Well, Bob, we’ll see how well your candidate does if millions of Sarah’s supporters stay home on election day. The good ol’ insecure boys can’t win elections without the girls turning out to vote.

If we want much longer, it will be too late.

True. But if Sarah is going to be the one and only leader in that fight (a bad idea IMO - at least until she announces a run for POTUS) then she needs to be fully prepared and attack when the time is right. Now is not the time.

Meanwhile we have a few pubbies standing up, like John Boehner has been the past week or so, and just maybe he will inspire some courage in the latent RINO crowd. Even conservative democrats have to step up if we are going to stop the demolition of our constitutional republic.
