Defense Chief [Gates] Hails Soldier In Pink Boxers:
'"Any soldier who goes into battle against the Taliban in pink boxers and flip-flops has a special kind of courage," Gates said, adding that Boyd may have hit on a new kind of psychological warfare. "I can only wonder about the impact on the Taliban. Just imagine seeing that - a guy in pink boxers and flip-flops has you in his crosshairs."'

How? They were in a fixed position. The Taliban already knew they were there.
If anything it put HIM in more danger.

Hmph! See if I ask you to join an away team.

Probably not, but as long as it doesn’t have Che Guevara on it, it shouldn’t mean a thing. AFAIK, the Soldier was responding to an immediate need for fire support for his position. As long as he had his weapon, helmet and body armor, who cares that he was in his sleeping gear. I made it up to my Battle Station on board ship in all different manners of dress. The only thing that mattered was that I was on station when needed, just as this Man was. It was his life on the line. If I also remember correctly, there were a number of Vietnam Vets (including 3 of my 7 Uncles)that had to do the same thing out in the Bush or Firebases.
I still applaude this Soldiers fortitude.......

As do I. The red shirt comments were jokes.
