The word is out that the Obamas will be spending part of their summer vacation in Martha's Vineyard. "Many blacks from Oak Bluffs are elated that the Only One-in-Chief may be joining them. "People are going to lose their minds!" Tonya Lewis Lee says.
At the same time, there's also a bit of wariness among the wealthiest ones, an uncertainty whether Obama will affirm them. "Obama is more a man of the people," says a Vineyarder who's part of black high society. "He doesn't seem to identify with affluent black people. His wife definitely doesn't; she is basically a ghetto girl."

To call a Harvard lawyer a "ghetto girl" is absolutely ludicrous.
The dynamics of black society is very difficult to understand. We are probably the only race that has prejudices against other members of our own race. This anonymous member of the black elite simply said was what is said among her group.
If Mrs. Obama were light-skinned with hazel eyes maybe she might be a little more tolerable, even though she was raised on the wrong side of the track.

I believe that he did have this skin condition: One of the reports on his autopsy mentions that he has some of the blotches on his torso. I had never believed it before. (I still don’t respect the guy, however!)

True—some of my cousins were college classmates with a few Kennedys. My sister was invited to the “compound” with them one summer. Both my mother and aunt replied “over my dead body”. The boys were allowed to go, the girls...not so much.
The Kennedys have a terrible reputation and no decent family wants to have anything to do with them socially—only the politically power hungry pal around with them.
You’d be surprised at how many descendants of cattle ranching, orange growing and farming families (old money) proudly label themselves Florida Crackers.

I don’t know what conclusion you can come to when you realize that a very large percentage of a certain race voted for one man during the last election.
Diversity isn’t just a one way street, all drivers going the same direction.
Diversity as it relates to politics, is a matter of conscience. It’s a matter of studying the issues. It’s a matter of making evaluations. It’s a matter of deciding which man (not which Black) is best suited to lead in adherence to our Constitution.
What we find is that Blacks want respect, to be treated as anyone else. But when push comes to shove, they don’t act like anyone else. They don’t study the issues. As long as someone is deemed to be going to help them personally, that’s their dog in the hunt.
We as Whites are crazy to harbor certain thoughts about Blacks. We shouldn’t think it reasonable for a significant portion of Blacks who have learned enough about the U.S. Constitution to be leery of a guy like Obama. We shouldn’t think that Blacks would take a look at Obama’s lack of executive experience and see it as cause for concern. We shouldn’t be surprised that they want to vote for a man who wishes to dismantle our military, release terrorists into our heartland, and side with terrorist states vs our long standing allies.
Perhaps Blacks would disagree, but I thought we had come a long way in eliminating racism in our nation. We are all one big happy family. We should all have some of the same concerns. I don’t expect Blacks to vote as a block the same way Whites do, but I do somehow think that when a race of people becomes enlightened, that the diversity of their views, would begin to resemble the diversity of views in other races, even if they don’t come to the same conclusions those other races do.
When you as a race vote for one man in numbers approaching or exceeding 90%, it is indicative of a problem that goes far beyond general elections.

I've had friends who had moved from Africa, both Uganda and Kenya, but I don't think they consider themselves African-American, they're just African. Since their kids were born here, they'd be considered African-American.
They're the only ones in this whole mess for whom I have any compassion.

Heh. That was another line from that scene in the Godfather. The movie producer was talking to Tom Hayden the Irish consigliere, and he goes something like "you let me tell you something else you lace curtain Irish mick"...
So, all tribal groups play that insider/outsider thing against other tribes and the outside world. In the caucasian world, we tend to call them feuds, like the Hatfields and McCoys. In Scottish terms, the Campbells may hate the McDonalds (now soup and burgers), and they both may hate the McGregors, but EVERYONE hates the foppish English nancy boys.
