A Chicago police officer avoided jail time today for pummeling a woman who was tending bar, even though prosecutors produced a previously unseen video showing him beating someone else at the bar hours earlier.
Anthony Abbate was sentenced to two years probation for beating Karolina Obrycka in February of 2007. He could have gotten up to five years for the attack, which was captured by the bar's security camera and shown around the world.

Second that and add that I have zero respect for any of them.
I don't think you are being "thick"...your rendering of my quote was not accurate, as you can see from the post, below...this is not an easy phrase and is often misused, latin being funny that way, but has some direct bearing both legal and civil to the discussion, I think...but you decide, if you care to research it...I have said pretty much all I have to say about the topic of cops, mobs, thugs and bad administrations and thought this was a good way to close, given your penchant for latin;
No jail time for cop who pummeled bartender (including video) Tuesday, June 23, 2009 4:06:04 PM · 59 of 81 jessduntno to Hiddigeigei
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Inter arma enim silent leges.
I'd like to hand that fat pig and the scumbag judge over to Al Qaida.
Our judicial system is a damned joke.
I’m fairly agnostic about barfights, having observed that both parties (usually) share the blame. I object, however, to the notion that after a fight with an off-duty cop one party gets arrested and the other gets offered a ride home.
I pray justice is delivered with Karolina’s civil suit against this animal and the city .. supposedly goes to trial next week. Let’s pray for a HUMONGOUS award... and that there’s no jury tampering.
My tagline >>>>>>
Amen.
Only if you're not paying attention.
And there REALLY IS a tooth fairy.
“Only if you're not paying attention.”
OK...I get it, the million or so cops who do a good job get slammed because of a handful of idiots...not very sound logic, IN MY OPINION...and listen, if we are correcting each other, shouldn't there be a space after the two sics, before the next words begin?
At the time when Cicero used this phrase, mob violence was common. Armed gangs led by thuggish partisan leaders controlled the streets of Rome.
“Civilians??” Cops ARE civilians — they keep forgetting that.
How about charges for obstructing justice? Are his fellow gang members in the lying Blue Wall of Silence even being charged?
Thanks for the info. If he had been charged with the other 2 assaults that day and if the intimidation, conspiracy and communicating with a witness and official misconduct hadn't been dropped (if he hadn't been a cop), he probably would have received jail time. If he didn't have a corrupt Chicago judge. LOL!
“It’s enough to make you want to get drunk and start hitting a bartender.....”
ROFLMAO! Yeah, you’re right, those poor cops have it tough...almost have it as tough as bartenders.
[still chuckling]
Yeah, Zoidberg, don’t go tearing down the whole police-corrections complex just because there are a few million jackbooted thugs out there. Why, just type the words “corrupt cop” into any search engine—even on that lame-o Google, you’ll only find a few hundred thousand hits, not even a million! They’re mostly innocent, dammit!
You are ranting like an ignorant DUer.
FYI: There aren't even "several million" police officers in this country. As for your google example... I guess your brain is too fried to realize that "hits" in a search engine is not equal to actual incidents.
The sad thing is, you don't even realize how crazy that you sound.
Proving once again that you think less than you type, you respond:
“FYI: There aren’t even “several million” police officers in this country. As for your google example... I guess your brain is too fried to realize that “hits” in a search engine is not equal to actual incidents.”
I guess your brain is too small to think across borders. There are millions of police all over the world, and you think they’re all friendly Officer Bobs because your neighborhood has one. But the sort of discretion wielded by police is the same power that corrupts absolutely, and that the power held by most police is far greater than that held by the same politicians you rail against. Obama and Dingy Harry and Nancy Pelosi can stare you down, but the cameras are on them. Meanwhile, most any average cop can put anyone in jail for 48 hours for looking at them wrong. I know whose threat is more immediate to my person and freedom.
And for you to think that there is no police-corrections complex in this country ignores the fact that Americans are overincarcerated to the tune of 738 persons per 100K—2 million+ prisoners in this country. The Chicoms, using liberal estimates, are putting up numbers just a little higher (790 or so). One in every 31 U.S. citizens is in some part of the criminal justice system: parole, probation, jail or prison. Say what you want, it is NOT a free country. And someone besides the general populace wants it that way, because the drug laws that put away people for holding small amounts of various chemicals, and overstock the prisons, are opposed by most Americans these days. You could check out the latest Field poll on the matter, if you cared.
But you probably don’t. Happy stomping!
Holy rambling ranting Batman! First you try to flip the script to the "world" rather than the United States. Then you go on a tirade about "discretion" failing to understand that officers exercise that discretion far more often by letting people go free, rather than enforcing the letter of the law. Then you make an insane accusation about the power of an officer to put someone in jail for 48 hours "for looking at them wrong." Put up or shut up bud. Cite me an actual Statute that allows an officer to put someone in jail for 48 hours for "looking at them wrong."
After all that, you scream about drugs... After all that's what this is really about isn't it.
You could have just skipped the other nonsense and just yelled "Get High man!!!"
