I have sent 3 replies to Johnn and none went through. That is so strange! What causes that? The reason I sent 3 is because I thought I had made a mistake or something but no, I didn’t!

This is a test. This is the last reply that I can see but the total shows there has been several since this one but I can’t see them. Can anybody see this? I won’t be able to see your answer.

POEM OF LIFE

Life is but a stopping place,
A pause in what's to be,
A resting place along the road,
to sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the way,
We all were meant to learn some things,
but never meant to stay...

Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know.
For some the journey's quicker,
For some the journey's slow.
And when the journey finally ends,
We'll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
Together with the Lord

I posted a poem and picture, too, but can’t open the last page. Guess they are having problems, and I hope John will be able to fix it soon, without too much trouble.

John Gillespie Magee Jr.

John Gillespie Magee Jr.

During the dark days of the Battle of Britain, hundreds of Americans crossed the border into Canada to enlist with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Knowingly breaking the law, but with the tacit approval of the then still officially neutral United States Government, they volunteered to fight Hitler's Germany.

John Gillespie Magee, Jr., was one such American. Born in
Shanghai, China, in 1922, Magee was just 18 years old when he entered flight training. Within the year, he was sent to England and posted to the newly formed No 412 Fighter Squadron, RCAF, which was activated at Digby, England, on 30 June 1941. He was qualified on and flew the Supermarine Spitfire.

Flying fighter sweeps over
France and air defence over England against the German Luftwaffe, he rose to the rank of Pilot Officer. At the time, German bombers were crossing the English Channel with great regularity to attack Britain's cities and factories. Although the dark days of the Battle of Britain were over, the Luftwaffe was still on the job of keeping up the pressure on British industry and the country.

On
September 3, 1941, Magee flew a high altitude (30,000 feet) test flight in a newer model of the Spitfire V. As he orbited and climbed upward, he was struck with the inspiration of a poem -- "To touch the face of God."

Once back on the ground, he wrote a letter to his parents. In it he commented, "I am enclosing a verse I wrote the other day. It started at 30,000 feet, and was finished soon after I landed." On the back of the letter, he jotted down his poem, 'High Flight'.

Just three months later, on
December 11, 1941 (and only three days after the US entered the war), Pilot Officer John Gillespie Magee, Jr., was killed. The Spitfire V he was flying, VZ-H, collided with an Oxford Trainer from Cranwell Airfield while over Tangmere, England. The two planes were flying in the clouds and neither saw the other. He was just 19 years old. He is buried in the churchyard cemetery at Scopwick, Lincolnshire.

High Flight

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, --and done a hundred things

You have not dreamed of --Wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air...

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew --
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod

The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

John Gillespie Magee, Jr

For All The Cat People Of Amy's Place

Mena's Mambo

My Pretty One likes to spend some evening hours with her little Magic Window
To keep up on many things going on and to be in the know
Looking at pictures and articles and odd things that make her giggle
Like when I'm crouched and in 'Attack Mode' when my butt begins to wiggle

A while ago, My Pretty One saw a strange poem called 'The Dexter Dance'
Written by someone named Jack Deth, who seems to possess a Feline's soul
And knows all of the deliciously secret things that make us lose control
Whether it's a plump Ball of Yarn, a Catnip Mouse or a tasty treat
That smells so wonderful that it quickly brings us to our feet

Which is why I am standing and patiently waiting for my chance
To snatch the shiny, oily treat that has me rapturously entranced
From My Pretty One's long and slender fingers before I start to fall
Oh, so gracefully, since my name is Mena, the Belle of the Ball!

I apologize for not getting here sooner.
Looks like another one of those day. :(

I needed to go to Fresno today so I decided to go while FR was down .
I didn't want to wait until the temps reached 105.

Hope everyone is having a marvelous Monday.

Well, I went to Kahlil Gibran’s quote section this morning! I truly loved them all! I had some favorites of course but all were good. Don’t know why I found that poem yesterday so
uninteresting and hard to understand.

I liked your poem here today and so glad you gave us the history of its author, John Gillespie Magee, Jr. Sad that he died 3 months after writing that though. Thats where Reagan got his words for the speech he made for the families of the astronauts whose loved ones were killed not too long after they lifted off, isn’t it? (I just noticed in that last sentence of mine, there was no where to take a breath....LOL!) Name that sentence!

Hey Meg!

From what little I’ve been able to read on the thread, you’re staying busy too! :)

Going another round with the IC. So much fun. At least now I know to stay away from the cranberry and green tea and... LOL
