Mom, Boy Who Fled Cancer Treatment Found
cbsnews ^ | May 25, 2009

Posted on 05/25/2009 3:39:41 PM PDT by JoeProBono

A woman and her 13-year-old son who were on the run from court-ordered cancer treatment for the boy have returned to Minnesota, the Brown County Sheriff's Office said Monday.

"Daniel Hauser and his mother have been returned to Minnesota," according to a news release. It did not reveal any additional details, but said there would be a news conference Monday evening.

The FBI's affidavit in support of an arrest warrant for Colleen alleges she fled the state Tuesday to avoid being prosecuted on two state counts of depriving another of custodial or parental rights in Brown County.

The FBI said the pair flew from Minnesota to Los Angeles last Tuesday on Sun Country Airlines. Investigators suspected they might have headed to one of a number of alternative cancer clinics in northern Mexico.

>>It is interesting to me that change was made.

Even if he was normal 13-yo I don’t think that changes the underlying questions here.

>>And to remind you again that when the doc says n% chance of survival they are talking about a 5-10 year survival rate.<<

Better than a 5% chance.

As I said, the State’s interest in this is as compelling as withholding any other kind of life-saving treatment.

He is tired of the chemo that doesn’t seem to be working and wanted to end it to live the best he could with what time he had left.

Do you just make things up as you type??

Sorry, but I believe you are wrong just as stongly as you believe you are right. However, arguing with you probably is shortening my life (altho it is making it feel longer) so, thank you for expressing your opinion and allowing me to express mine.

As I posted on a related thread:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2256546/posts?page=68#68

You and I are in agreement here. I don’t like or necessarily trust government interference in parental matters or making decisions to either force or withhold medical treatment. But I also think that a parent(s) fringe religious beliefs does not shield them from parental responsibility or neglect based on those beliefs.

“If these parent’s belonged to some Voodoo cult that believed that illness was the result of evil spirits and thought that withholding food and water for weeks and that ritualized beatings of the child would drive out the evil spirits and therefore cure, most of us would have no problem with the State coming in and removing the child from such abuse.”

This is why I don't trust their statistics at all. Suppose I am diagnosed with breast cancer and ask the doc how long I will live if I do nothing.

He will probably tell me they don't have any idea. If they don't know, then how do they know if their treatments will be doing me any good?

I just had a friend who died after two to three years of cutting and poisoning. She didn't have any quality of life once they started in on her.

Consider Tony Snow. How does anyone know if he was done any favors? I dare say, I would have rather relied on alternatives.

I think we are coming out of this thread with about 40 or 50% in agreement, 30 or 40 who think the State should stay out completely, 20% or so who have thread-drifted out of the OP and 1 complete holy-roller nut case.

Kind of a normal distribution for an FR thread if you think about it. ;)

Can you get into any thread of depth without getting into personal attacks on other freeprs? Your performance on this thread says not.

Never die?

That is not promised on Earth. (it comes later)

Do it right, and live the life span that the lord intended, without cronic pain and disease. Some do it, some laugh at it, while continuing to suffer.

Natural medicine does not have the long list of failures that man made medicine has. God gave us the stuff we need, and all we need to do is use it. Read James 5, it works.

Exactly. The docs just do not know, all they can do is guess.

I was told if I stopped the chemo treatment I would be dead in six months, that was August 1987.

Chemo is nothing but the quickest way for the medical death industry to drain the insurance account of the victim.

My husband had pancreatic cancer, went through chemo and radiation and is still here 3 yrs later. His cancer would have killed him without medical treatment.

Quote mining?

You are trying to use DC talking points that you don’t even understand?

What quote was mined?

Was that intended as humor?

Well, I was able to sniff out a nut. It answers so much. As far as the rest goes, if you had read the entire thread I have been having a lovely time with many of my fellow FReepers.

The extreme irony of your question will not be lost on some, though.

You quote mined me one quote after I posted for everyone to see.

If you can’t see it, I can’t help.

Hypocrite.
