A woman and her 13-year-old son who were on the run from court-ordered cancer treatment for the boy have returned to Minnesota, the Brown County Sheriff's Office said Monday.
"Daniel Hauser and his mother have been returned to Minnesota," according to a news release. It did not reveal any additional details, but said there would be a news conference Monday evening.
The FBI's affidavit in support of an arrest warrant for Colleen alleges she fled the state Tuesday to avoid being prosecuted on two state counts of depriving another of custodial or parental rights in Brown County.
The FBI said the pair flew from Minnesota to Los Angeles last Tuesday on Sun Country Airlines. Investigators suspected they might have headed to one of a number of alternative cancer clinics in northern Mexico.
Ah, you’ve arrived to share your medical ignorance. By all means, hawk your vitamin theories here. It won’t change the fact that there is a 95% efficacy for chemo when treating Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Have you had chemo or radiation treatment? Just wondering.
What do you mean, "chemo that doesn't seem to be working?" It worked. It shrank the tumor. Then it grew back after his mother stopped the medicine in favor of water and vegetables. That's a matter of public record. [news report] [court transcript]
Feel free to believe in whatever "alternative" treatments you like. Nemenhah Band and their thirteen-year-old "medicine men," homeopathy, Narconon, freshly-squeezed snake oil, whatever. It's all the same. But expect to be called out when you misrepresent the truth.
Absolutely correct!
>>Well, Ill bet there are millions of people who would disagree with you that radiation treatment isnt all that bad.<<
It ain’t fun but neither is dialysis nor injecting oneself with insulin 3 or 4 times a day. Because something is uncomfortable that doesn’t mean it isn’t beneficial.
Yep. Exactly. I don’t know if I’d choose chemo if I came down with lung cancer, pancreatic cancer or any other horror with single digit survival rates with treatment. But 95% C’mon, this is a gimme.
>>Absolutely correct!
I feel sorry for your kids if they ever get sick. You will no doubt withhold treatment from them until they die.
How much of your life do you want government to control?
So you’d be cool if I quit giving my kids water, because I want them pass on to the next life, it not being significant and all?
Where is that in the Constitution.
God helps those that help themselves. She is not helping anyone by running. We need to set an age for kids that once reached they can make the decision. I think this would appease both sides. Until that age you should always see a doctor because faith alone doesnt heal. Isnt that pretty much saying that all the other kids that died prob did because they didnt pray enough for God to smite the cancer. 90% of children with this cancer are cured through chemotherapy. What is the % of kids that had full blown cancer and it went away by doing nothing or by praying? I doubt it reaches 90%. If a women cant tend to her child Im afraid I have to agree with govt on this one. We are not perfect so therefore how can this mother know without a shadow of a doubt she is right and how are we supposed to know if Gods meaning was literal. Why not err on the side of caution and let this boy live!
I guess I dont think it matters what she knows. It is her child. If you dont like the government telling you what to do with your children or your property or whatever, some ot the stands are hard to take. But I can live with her not treating her child traditionally.
>>Have you had chemo or radiation treatment? Just wondering.
As I said, I had close friends who have and I was ni close touch throughout the process. It was pretty terrible, but they came out OK.
But by what law does the court have to force them into treatment they do not want? Remember, government does not have "rights", the people allow government to "manage" things to help keep a civil society.
How did the court find out about this boy? Were the parents sued? I hope they were sued by someone with "standing"! If so, can we can get that person to sue for BO's BC?
>>But I can live with her not treating her child traditionally.<<
Her child can’t, though.
My sentiments exactly. I just don’t know how to come down on it, altho I lean toward letting parents decide. Still, if she were friend or family I would counsel her to have the treatments for the boy. I don’t think a 13 year old is making an informed decision, he’s listening to his Mother.
So youd be cool if I quit giving my kids water, because I want them pass on to the next life, it not being significant and all?
Water is something that we provide like food to healthy children. It is not a treatment. If you dont feed your child water, which like food, is part of the bargin of parenting, at minimal we provide three hots and a cot, I believe you should be hanged and your child put in an orphanage.
You have no idea if these parents are delusional or not. Do you know if the child WANTS the treatment? It's his body so shouldn't he have a say?
More's the pity that Chickensoup can live with her not treating her child traditionally, yet the child in question cannot live with it. Sucks to be that kid in your world huh? Thank God people like you aren't in charge.
13 year olds are sometimes tried as adults for crimes.
Did a judge determine this 13 year old’s understanding of the
consequences of either treatment approach? If the kid
understands the odds either way, I’d let him make
his decision with his parents.
HIS success rate with Chemo could just as easily be
in the 5-10% death rate and not in the 90-95% success
rate. NO ONE KNOWS what HIS odds are.
It is his life and consequence - not a judges.
