Time is a component of a measuring system used to sequence events, to compare the durations of events and the intervals between them, and to quantify the motions of objects. Time has been a major subject of religion, philosophy, and science, but defining time in a non-controversial manner applicable to all fields of study has consistently eluded the greatest scholars. (Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time)

At the point in history when Homo sapiens became socially aware, time was considered to be cyclical, or a matter of day and night. The seasons were a matter of birth and death, and calendars were based on planetary movement. Everything was explained via cycles within cycles.

It’s a maturity of humankind theory, per se.

Look at it from the human pregression scale of infant to adult. An infant has no concept of what ‘time’ (unaware, unfamiliar) is but as he/she matures, ‘time’ becomes more and more relevant (aware, familiar).

Excellent observation. I was basing this comment on the ‘theory’ that man was not always in tuned with the details of time as it related to a twenty four hour period, seasons, planetary events,etc..

Thanks for the feedback.

Please, almighty God — please tell me there will be no more threads about the Mayans and Pi, or the Mayans and 2012. Please.

but, being a bible believing christian, when God created the first human’s, he made them aware of time, days, nites, seasons, etc....that is my point.

if you are not a believer, then i can see where this presumption came from.

I consider myself a Christian, but as such, allow me to point out the key to what you have said: *emphasis added* "...he [God] made them aware of time, days, nites, seasons, etc..." The assumption that God made man aware is not in conflict with the premise that infants are not aware of time, days, nites, seasons, etc. but are made aware of such via their parents and adapting to their environment.

Man was first. God then made them Human (aware), then he threw them out of Eden (or Edem). God had to know that man would "have" to experiment and make mistakes so it was a given that man would be banished at some point.

If we (ever) know everything, then we will be as smart as God. That is when we will no longer have a reason to exist because we no longer have to strive.

But they were created with intelligence far beyond anything we have today, they knew all about time as God explained it to them, the dispersal and general losing of knowledge occured after the fall.

My dog seems to know when I’ve held a piece of food in my hand too long (or too long for him). He definitely notices the difference between my being gone for 10 minutes and a day.
