The chewable aspirin consistently showed greater and more rapid absorption than the regular aspirin, whether swallowed whole or chewed. This seemingly quite simple finding could lead to improvements in the care of heart attack patients.

What constitutes the chewable formulation?

One can only wonder how it differs and if it is actually different from other aspirin formulations like Stanback or Goodies or BC. The fine powder is known to be very rapid acting

I’ve read that putting it under the tongue is the way to do it in an emergency.

I don't know. I'm going to try to remember to check on this on my next drug store visit.

I think that sub lingual application is the way to go for rapid absorption of any oral treatment.

3 chewable baby aspirin (81 mg) prevented me from having a severe heart attack because I took them immediately when I suspected a very bad heartburn was something else.My cardiologist told me my heart attack on a scale of 1 -10 was a 1, with no permanent damage because I took the aspirin right away (2 stents inserted after angioplasty for blockages). Big lifestyle change - lost 40 lbs, total cholesterol down to 112, full recovery and riding about 80 miles per week.Moral of the story - keep chewable baby aspirin on your nightstand, in your briefcase, car, and pay attention to exercise & eating habits - life is short & fragile.

For those of us steadily advancing in age, having aspirin available at the onset of a heart attack or stroke can make a difference, a significant difference, in the outcome.

I made myself a Heart Attack First Aid Kit consisting of a 1” diameter metal tin containing two standard aspirin tablets nestled in foam.

I have instructed myself to chew the tablets if symptoms appear. I will look into the chewable formulation for my kit.

I never leave home without it.

You just made me think of something. Aspirin loses its potency over time and a vinegar smell is how you know it. The kiddie aspirin I bought is cherry flavored which could mask the smell. Your carry tin might not contain the odor. Don’t know how long aspirin is supposed to last when not sealed.
