Office of the Acting CEO
Seeking Your Input on Implementation of Serve America Act
Dear Colleagues,
On April 21, 2009, President Obama signed the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act into law, ushering in a new era of service and volunteering for our nation.
The Act charges the Corporation for National and Community Service and our partners to dramatically expand opportunities for Americans to serve, to focus on critical national issues, to be a catalyst for social innovation, and to support the nonprofit sector. The law both expands our existing programs and creates new initiatives to increase service opportunities and strengthen our civic infrastructure.
The Serve America Act goes into effect on October 1. We will be spending the coming weeks and months planning for implementation, and are very interested in getting your input as we move ahead. As the people who make service happen in communities everyday, you have vital insights about how we can make the most of the extraordinary opportunities presented by this new legislation. We also need your input as we develop the Corporations strategic plan for the next five years.
We are sponsoring a number of opportunities for public input over the next month, including listening sessions around the country, conference calls, and a web page for submitting your written comments.

How cool!
What are you going to volunteer for, bro?
Actually, I'm already a fan of the government staying the hell out of my face.
Is it voluntary? Or Obama’s institution of new slavery?
Right up until they haul you out and make you do it, it is.
Giving ACORN members and other BrownShirts graphic demonstrations of the Second Amendment!
How about you?
Can’t get the $787 Trillion Stimulus to anyone, but damn if they can’t demand you “SERVE”.
Wonder how folks who are struggling worse than before Obama took office will feel about being told to get out and work for free and they haven’t even received ANYTHING from him.
Providing those same folks a hands-on demonstration of the benefits of minding your own damn business.
Not a popular lecture, I fear.
Repeat custom is historically slight.
I volunteer to teach capitalism to kids...
“Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act”? This will not float in Mayberry!
Outstanding! They'll need the know-how after the collapse.
Be about the only way I could get ammo these days.
The “Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act”? Well this ain’t gonna work for me because
1) I don’t own an Oldsmobile and
2) I have no females working for me that I can kill
I am volunteering to help a young, FEMALE, (18-25) learn how to make and serve adult beverages, clean house, prepare nutritious meals, help clean the pool, and do my laundry.
In return, I volunteer to give her a nice, comfortable place to stay, and I also volunteer to teach her about the greatness of this country and the freedoms we all (used to) possess. I will do my best to convert her, if needed, to conservatism.
We appreciate your fine effort, you are truly a great American!
