Just when the not really bipartisan world of Washington and beyond was getting all comfortable hating the new leader of the Republican Party, Rush Limbaugh, word leaks out that the planet's most successful and quite possibly most reviled radio talk-show broadcaster -- oh, look, he's a conservative! -- loves animals... But it turns out, lovable Rush is a big animal-rights guy. He's got a much-adored cat named Punkin (see photo ). No, really...

By golly, that is one brave cat! My little coward saw a snowy egret perched on our balcony (and about to eat all the fish in our pond, we later realized), and the cat oozed off the bed and slithered underneath it. I swear he looked like a shadow moving across the bed and down the side.
