Why I'm Leaving Free Republic
PcTech

Posted on 04/10/2009 6:10:22 PM PDT by pctech

I am leaving Free Republic. After I post this message I will not come back and most likely ask the moderator to remove my account.

You may ask why. Today I posted a copy of a letter I received from an anti-terrorism officer in the United States Air Force. It was received through official channels but was not classified or top secret and I was granted permission to share it. It was an article concerning the possibility of a terrorist attack on American soil and it was pulled because, and I quote "Proven incorrect on snopes."

This is one time I am disagreeing with the moderator and his/her decision to pull the thread. This information was verified through official military channels and was supposed to help warn us to the imminent danger our country is in.

Instead, the moderator exercised, I felt, a lapse in judgment when he (or she) pulled the article that is in need of being disseminated. And this isn't the first time this has been done by moderators on Free Republic. While Free Republic has stood for conservative and GOP values it has also neglected it's responsibility to see that the information of the type I tried to share gets out. Instead they say it can't be verified and could be wild speculation (though I told them it was verified through official military channels) and pulled it even though I asked them not to.

So, I am saying goodbye. It was fun and I will treasure the friends I have made here on FR. Good luck to you all.

There’s no opps, and I still may honor my pledge. We’ll see what happens.

Dunno, we'll see how things transpire. I have invitations to join other conservative websites and I have done so with a few of them. Apparently, this thread has made news on other blogs.

Goodness, I just had a terrible thought; what if someone frmom DU has posted this on their website? Egads..........................

Yeah, I didn't really mean anything by that other than it is sometimes tough to back down.

It's Jim's site and he reinstated your post so it looks like you were vinicated. Congrats!

LOL. Dont you hate it when you get on some unwanted mailing list? Anyway, I've found the moderators to be sometimes limiting here as well. Can't knock you for it. For me, it still serves my purposes for disseminating my opinions and the opinions of those with whom I agree. Also I've enjoyed and learned from most of the freepers with whom I've communicated. I don't know you but you seem like a level headed sort so I am sorry you feel the need to leave. Hope you find what you are looking for. Just don't join DU.

Unless you're a mod, or TigersArse, I wasn't addressing you.

Were you addressing me? I thought you had tucked tail and run!?!

“That’s probably my swansong, not by my choice, but by FR’s royalty”

Swansong after 1 month?

Generally that term is used to describe a farewell after many, many years of activity.

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out after your entire month.

Well said. I’d like to point out that FreeRepublic has never claimed to be an open forum. They have created a place where cons can air their views all the while knocking trolls and flamers and sleepers off with what I am sure is almost pentagon level hacking diligence. At times the moderators have been capricious and arbitrary. They have, though, let me post articles from Mother Jones and enviro-lefty websites when I was trying to make a point. I don’t know how many posts per day they have to filter just to keep some semblance of order but it must be a hard job.

“Actually it motivates a minority of kids to look beyond the system and take responsibility for themselves.”

Huh? Actually is de-motivates a majority of kids and teaches them to bow down to the government.

Huh? Actually is de-motivates a majority of kids and teaches them to bow down to the government.<<

I think both are true. Most kids are hurt by bad education just like most are hurt by poverty or bullies or being orphans. But occasionally it motivates an exception child to fight back and rise above it.

I’m not arguing for the current education system anymore than I support poverty.

Maybe the moderator needs to check snopes on whether or not to delete the account...lol

You could always double check on factcheck...ROFL.

Meanwhile if what he wanted to post was valid- FR just missed a great opportunity to help the people it is so trying hard to protect.

Not to nitpick, but isn't this statement contrary if not hypocritical? Now you do what you want but I would only suggest that in the future you resist the urge at behaving so dramatically. If I were to leave, (which I won't because I'm a recognized asset to the site), I would simply cease to log on.
