Wooooooooo Hooooooooooo!
She will be closely following my youngest, who will be standing in the footprints at Parris Island on June 1, 2009.
Maybe they'll be able to wave at each other at some point.
One of my co-workers is retired from the USCG. He LOVED every moment of it.

I will! I will get the Guinness!
And Great Lakes Icrebreakers are heavy duty -—Duty.
I know you have a special bond with Anoreth (I mean all of ‘em of course, but Anoreth is -— Anoreth!) and she will be an incomparable boon to the Coast Guard. They are lucky to get chicklets from the Tax Chick and Der Prinz!

OldTax-lady is thrilled. She said she and my dad will go to Anoreth’s graduation from Basic, since I’ll still be stuck at home with the Brother. She has cousins on the Jersey Shore who have been nagging her to visit.
I’m a lot more relaxed about Anoreth’s going into the Coast Guard than I would be if she were leaving for college or getting married.

"outta cheezburgers"? Say it isn't so!
(Not that I'd have one on Good Friday. The Sanctuary sure looked bare after the "stripping of the altar" following the Maundy Thursday service.)

You figure the USCG has adult leadership and will take care fo her!
(I feel the same way about the USMC)

Yes, exactly. Colleges are full of kids spending their parents’ money while seeing how much trouble they can get into - exceptions exist, of course - positively encouraged by the “authorities.”
The military has already invested money and time in the kids, and will continue to invest more. They have as much interest in a positive outcome - a healthy, well-trained, mature trooper - as the recruit or his/her parents do.

Well, ours is still the folding altar from our early days, so they put a black frontal on it. And on the pulpit too.

Turning off the aumbry lamp was amusing -- it's electric and without a switch, so they had to open it and unscrew the lightbulb.

Our altar is wood frame, since we’re a “multi-purpose parochial facility” rather than a canonical church. They took some pieces off as well as all the linens.

"So. Do you subscribe to Mother Earth News?" I used to have a lifetime subscription, but the magazine died.
Oh, by the way, I made it to Pennsylvania. Spring is not here.

I used to have a subscription, and I learned some good things, but as I got older and wiser, I realized that my days of “hippie-dom” were over. As if I ever experienced them.
I was married to a sailor who was off fighting the war in Viet Nam, and had a small son to take care of, so hippie life was the last thing on my mind.

Yep, my son is SO over school. The problem is, IT ain't done with him yet. Praying for May 22 and him to arrive together and in one piece . . . .
He will never be a scholar - he's a man of action, very athletic (unlike many ADHD kids who are often a bit klutzy), and very hardheaded (can't IMAGINE where he gets that from . . . )
If anybody can knock some sense into that thick head, the USMC can do it.

A day late, but:
:hoisting a Guinness:
Here’s to you, Anoreth! May your roads be bumpy but not impassable. May your food be little but healthy and sustaining. May you always remember you are a Daughter of God and that you can make the best choices in the world for a life of strength and virtue.
And always remember, you are Loved and you are in my prayers!
‘Face
XOXOXO
