His mother, a white woman, bore him and sort of raised him. His white grandparents raised him under not-unaffluent conditions. Another man adopted him and gave him his name and cared for him for a while. He was abandoned by his putative father who saw him a single time when he was ten. And what does he entitle his book? Dreams from My Father. And what does he bitch about in the book? The guy who abandoned him for what he thought was a more prestigious school? No, the race to which his mother belonged. He described his grandmother's reaction to a black guy as that of a "typical white woman."
