Man's best friend serves as model for understanding human social behavior
Chimpanzees share many of our genes, but dogs have lived with us for so long and undergone so much domestication that they are now serving as a model for understanding human social behavior, according to a new paper.

When we're not swinging from trees we're sleeping on sofas?
A dog is nothing more than a man made wolf-killing wolf.
It seems most Christians believe once an animal dies, that is it. That they have no spirit or soul. That is why their death is so very sad for pet owners and animal lovers, believing that they will never see their beloved companions again.
As a dog owner, someone gave me the book Cold Noses At The Pearly Gates, by Gary Kurz. While there isn't any scripture that bluntly tells us one way or another what happens to our beloved pets, Mr. Kurz does refer to several verses throughout the book. However, since God does not provide us with any concrete answers, deductive reasoning must be used.
I've always reluctantly accepted what the majority of Christians believe that even our most beloved pets have no afterlife. Although I'm not one hundred percent convinced otherwise, this book did give me something to ponder. A very good argument was made that when we get to Heaven there will not only be animals for us to enjoy, but we would also be met by the pets we loved on earth.
Maybe. I hope anyway.
How could it could it be Heaven without dogs? reminds me of the old Twilight Zone where the guy died with his hound. He was invited into what looked like the Pearly Gates but told he would have to leave his dog behind. Of course he told the gate-keeper "no thanks" and moved on. The real gate to Heaven was just a lttle further down the road and the dog was welcomed with the man.
Jimmy Dean had a story about his father, long johns with a back flap, a shotgun, a chicken coop and a dog with a cold nose. The story ended with feathers flying everywhere.
I like swine.
Dogs look up to us.
Cats look down on us.
Pigs treat us as equals.
They see how we vote.
My dog woke me up this morning 3 minutes after the alarm failed to ring. How did he know it was a weekday?
Marking.
You went to bed sober? ;-) Well, okay, you went to bed early? Maybe they just learn our cycles.
Not all of us.
Just those who didn't read the article before commenting.
If I had gone to bed sober, I would have set the alarm! (Should go without saying!)
Ha. Just saying...
That’s what the Atheists are going to try and come up with next.
Oh. Must have skipped this part.
“While there is no evidence to support that dogs and humans co-evolved...”
My dog is so human it’s scary sometimes. Not all good by the way - he can be plenty annoying - just like a lot of humans :)
Twain loved cats too:
“A home without a cat—and a well-fed, well-petted and properly revered cat—may be a perfect home, perhaps, but how can it prove title?”
Oh, and the following about dogs sort of belies your quote:
“By what right has the dog come to be regarded as a “noble” animal? The more brutal and cruel and unjust you are to him the more your fawning and adoring slave he becomes; whereas, if you shamefully misuse a cat once she will always maintain a dignified reserve toward you afterward—you will never get her full confidence again.”
- Mark Twain, a Biography
I sort of have a deep down belief, hope actually, that by domesticating our animals we MAKE them part human, and that they thereby GET souls so that they can wait for us and join us in the afterlife.
As far as automatic admission is concerned, there are plenty of people that aren’t getting there either.
That’s possible. I know it confused the heck out of my cat when the time changed, and my boss said his cats jumped up on his bed an hour early too.
Well, duh.
I don’t think that. It seems to me that every animal has fulfilled the nature and measure of its creation.
Why punish them?
