Idiocracy is a good movie.
Very cool... I’ve seen about 43 on that list which really surprises me because the majority of those movies were “before my time” by more than a bit! LOL
Some great Errol Flynn movies like The Adventures of Robin Hood, Sea Hawk, and Dodge City.
Yes... a lot of the older films aren't even in the running here.
A few good Jimmy Stewart movies were left out as well:
Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, and Harvey.
I'll take these any day over insipid movies like Fast Times at Ridgemont High. IMHO.
I am Mr. SF, the UberNerd. Seriously. And when I saw ET all I could think of was "He might as well have been a cuddly little puppy. This movie is written entirely to manipulate my emotions. Here it comes...threee, two, one...ADORABLE MOMENT. Followed by INSERT EMPATHIZE WITH ET HERE." It was like a bad carnival hot dog that everyone else was chomping down like it was a Nathan's...but you knew, in your heart, it was made with floor sweepings and flavored with chemicals calculated to make you go "ooooh, he's SOOOOOOOOO CUTE!"
I’ve seen 73 of these movies (but I used to work in hollywood where watching movies was the daily activity of everyone in and out of the biz.)
No Gone With the Wind nor The Dirty Dozen....tsk, tsk, tsk.
I would add “The Passion of the Christ” and “A Man for all Seasons,” just to name two.
No Oscar darlings from the last 10 years - says a bunch. :)
No Ben Hur either.
I see they also left out The Sound of Music, and the Bells of Saint Mary's.
What - no Stripes?
If by “Lord of the Rings” they are speaking of the trilogy, and I would assume they are, then “Return of the King,” the final film in the trilogy, collected a boat load of Oscars. Probably the only deserving winner in quite awhile, too.
Would someone please tell me what is so important about the Godfather? It’s a boring movie that adds very little. I can never understand why it’s always rated so high.
Not much to argue about on this one.
However, anybody who’s serious about moviegoing uses the AFI lists. 100 comedies, 100 dramas, etc.
And they revise them every decade.
For the 2000’s, yes “The Passion of the Christ” . I’d add Apocalyto, Lord of the Rings, and Serenity (a non-communist sci-fi movie).
Boring.
A decent list but I can’t believe they left out “Patton.”
