ROSIE MORTIMER: My friends would ask, 'Why is your Dad so old?'
It wasn't easy for a 10-year-old to answer

When I told him I was getting married, my father John was as thrilled as any other proud parent.

Dad was 84, frail and wheelchair-bound. The wedding was at least a year away but he was very much looking forward to the big day.

While friends and relatives asked if I was planning to wheel Dad down the aisle, I wondered if it might be easier and less distracting to have him waiting at the front of the church. The thought never crossed my mind that he wouldn't be there at all.

Like, *PING*, dudes and dudettes.

Tell your friends. (The article is about the daughter of the guy who wrote the "Rumpole of the Bailey" stories...

Cheers!

I was first introduced to "Rumpole of the Baily" through PBS. Then I read the books. When the dvd set was released, I bought that also.
It's sweet how he refers to his wife as "She who must be obeyed".

Have a look see here:

We loved that series! SirKit and the kids bought me a mug for Mother's Day one year that reads "She Who Must be Obeyed". I keep my measuring spoons in it, so it's always out on the counter.
