Report: Bristol Palin and Fiancé Split
TODAY ^ | 03.11.09 | STAFF

The pair, parents to 2-month-old son Tripp, broke up 'a few weeks ago'

Bristol Palin and her fiancé Levi Johnston have broken up, two sources tell PEOPLE.

The split happened "a few weeks ago," according to a source close to the couple, but it's unclear what precipitated it. "It was a mutual thing," adds the source.

"It kind of just happened," says the source, referring to the split. "I thought they would stick it out. But I think they can work together to raise Tripp."

Despite the breakup, Levi still sees the couple's son. Levi's dad, Keith Johnston, told PEOPLE recently that his son is a devoted and "proud father."

Bristol, meanwhile, is attending Wasilla High, taking a class to supplement course work she is completing at home. She also is considering enrolling in college next fall and studying nursing.

Likewise I’m sure.

Great.

Did that advance either argument one millimetre?

Didn’t think so.

Dear, it would be a wasted effort. If you cannot perceive the badness and weakness in loudly pronouncing what the Palins and Bristol and Levi should do and should have done, or what they shouldn't do and shouldn't have done, with regard to personal, private affairs that truly are none of our business, just as any moral lapses (short of murder or theft) manifested in your own children that have the potential of burdening society as much as themselves are none of my business -- well, then you're enough of a Church Lady to totally miss the point.

And I think indeed, you happily miss the point because it is more gratifying for you to do so. That's okay, I still love you -- but don't expect me to condone what you do, anymore than I condone single motherhood. More than anything, I encourage the Christian wisdom of minding your own business.

I hate to argue but having been around in the 60s, women simply got pregnant less before marriage because many did nnot screw around outside marriage.

The pill which was supposed to alleviate that did quite the opposite.

for freeper to sop lightly dismiss current illegitimacy as no big deal is astounding and very misplaced.

illegitimacy has killed the black community and is working it’s same magic on poorer whites as we speak.

...the rest of us, who live life to the fullest; who love wildly and give generously; who laugh often and appreciate the beauties of the human condition; who always look for the best in everyone, and do not search fastidiously for the mote in the eyes of our brothers and sisters.

AMEN, amen, amen! Beautifully put. Your words make my heart swell with love, even for the nasty old Church Ladies who are to be pitied as well as respected in their own right.

You don’t believe what you just wrote, or you wouldn’t have written it.

If nothing short of murder and theft is of interest to nonparticipants this whole thread should have been beneath your notice.

That it was not indicates fully how much you believe in the power and appropriateness of social sanction—you just don’t like it aimed at anyone linked to someone you like, that is all.

Ah yes, you love them as you call them “nasty old Church Ladies.”

That sort of love just transforms souls, don’t you know.

I know I’m on the verge of capitulating after that heartwarming embrace.

The RR wing of the republican party is no different than the left wing of the dem party, imo

I agree with the Pharisee wing, but I know a lot of hardline "Religious Right" people who disagree heavily with the tone here. Many of them understand that no one is perfect.

I'm all for social sanction. I support it fully. I hate "gay rights" and "women's rights" and "civil rights" laws that punish the likes of you and me for engaging in social sanction in places where it truly makes a difference, such as who we rent to, who we serve in our restaurants, who we hire, who we fire, and where we do business. I'm all for social sanction.

I'm against the government and Church Ladies deciding for me when such sanction is appropriate what that social sanction should be.

No one has decided for you.

I make the case for adoption as the best option based on my understanding of the facts of Bristol’s case coupled with my commitment to social importance of the married family.

Agree or disagree, but don’t think that calling me names is going to change my mind or make your arguments more compelling.

So, let’s see if you can unclench your fist from the “Church Lady” stamp you’ve been flailing about the thread.

Do you really believe that God forgives all sins, no matter what?

That's between God and the sinner (NOT "society"), but the only thing he does not forgive when asked is Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

I agree, but justice and mercy have to be reconciled: one does not “trump” the other—every tear shall be wiped away, not made to never have existed.

Thanking you again for your kind words. I must correct my rushed and poor wording that can easily be misread as meaning that I think I "bettered" someone, which is just awful!!! I have to clear it up -- I wrote:

... I’m glad I found a context to share it, and better a fellow who found it worthwhile.

I meant that it was wonderful to find a context to share the sentiment, and even better to come across a fellow person who found the sentiment worthwhile.

You're incredible! Leave the cigar alone but seize the baby from it's loving mother's arms

hmmm...I don't think I made the story clear. As a matter of fact, I shouldn't have posted it at all, as it requires too much typing to make clear.

BUT, in the interests of clarification: the sick woman who killed the 2-yr-old was NOT the loving mother. She's the one who took the child's father (yes, I know she didn't hold a gun to his head) from her mother, along with the child. How she got the child, too, I have no idea. When Lifeflight showed up after the child was injured, her story was that the little girl fell off the toilet and hit her head on the tub. But I learned the immediate responders required counseling after seeing the condition of that poor child! She was NOT the mother. She was the mistress-turned-live-in-lover. I regret not getting to know my neighbors better, but no one else who knew them recognized a danger, either. I'm also reticent to make judgment calls on how parents rear their children (regarding discipline, etc.), by the way.

MY beef is with a society that decides smoking is a "moral" issue that is just fine to address, but making a call on someone having an affair and wrecking a marriage/family is "taboo". "Bad is good and good is bad" doesn't really fit here, I guess. But I don't have the time or the inclination to go into all that. I'm sorry I even posted this stuff here. :(

Your post #110 to Carry_Okie in "Bristol Palin breaks up with fiance Levi Johnston": All abusive fathers, without exception, should lose custody of their children forever. In addition, you seem to be suffering from Stockholm Syndrome. Get some help.

Your post #113 to BlackVeil in "Bristol Palin breaks up with fiance Levi Johnston": You are so wrong I don't even know where to start. Your "studies" are fictions, your statement is padded with the parenthetical use of the conditional term "overall" and your flip dismissal of "people who suffer like that" is clearly based on rank ignorance. In fact, parental abuse is so horrific precisely because trauma experienced as a child from parents destroys fundamental trust. As a result, it escapes even the best efforts of the adult to reach it with almost any therapies and becomes ever more toxic over time, leading to the generational destruction of families. You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

Your post #526 netmilsmom here: You're flat-out sick, and your understanding of a mothers' love is less than that held by animals.

your post #527 here: And it's so easy to do, too! Just get State force to rip the baby from her mother's arms and give it to some others you have decided, with your superior mind, would be better for "it."

Your post to me, #531: You're a shill. No one is as genuinely screwed up as you are presuming to be. All you want to do is inflame the debate - and let's see, whom would that benefit? Enquiring minds want to know.

Well, it appears you're quite the inflamatory, bitter person here, now doesn't it? Too bad you read everything with such a negative twist. :(

It’s not being obtuse to place the blame where it belongs. I am sure she discussed running for Vice President with her daughter, her husband and every other family member and they decided they could handle it. Who are you , or I for that matter to pass out blame on someone elses family situation? apparently you feel you are entitled to do so and all I am saying is if you choose to do so, put it where it belongs. This is not Sarah Palins fault. It’s her daughters and her now ex boyfriends.

You failed to mention that she got pregnant out of wedlock. And, she was barely 17.

Okay, maybe you want to congratulate her. Since your criticize my remarks (to the point of laughter) you obviously believe strongly that such sexual activity is mature and responsible and therefore, desirable. However, they are wrong to God.

Such actions also harm society. I agree that is not uncommon. But, simply because it is not common does not make it good. We are getting used to it and it is not a good thing to get used to. Illegitimacy is a plague on our nation and contributes immensely to crime, drugs, and billions in welfare spending—spending to ameliorate the damage that illegitimacy causes.

To Bristol Palin’s credit, she does not promote her wrong or condone it. She will not inherit the social ills associated with illegitimacy. Bristol Palin is fortunate because she has the support of her family who are successful. However, most young girls are not so blessed. And attitudes that condone such behavior, such as yours, propagate an environment where illegitimacy is encouraged, and our nation dies.

Church Lady is a perfect "stamp" for the likes of the self-righteous, who actually think they can reform the world with a heart filled with ice cubes.

People don’t get it.

You'll always have people who know of one exception to the rule, i.e. they know the one teen mom whose life turned out ok when she kept her baby, therefore it's great for everyone. It's human nature to generalize to the whole based on one individual. Most people never do the research, don't face this in their daily lives, and just don't get it. I've been closely involved in this with my work for almost a decade, and I DO get it.
