Maybe I don’t listen the right kind of music: I understand the horizontal axis, but what determines vertical position?

People who listen to Jazz are dumber than people who listen to Jay-Z. Apparently.

Not one of my favorite bands are listed. I’ll take that as a sign that I am either an idiot or a genius, or maybe both.

I always say certain music makes you stupid. I'll come across some rap or dance track, and joke that I can feel my brain cells eroding. Must...change....station.
I recall a study years ago that determined chickens lay more eggs if they are played classical music. I think that stupid people listen to stupid music, and stupid music makes you even more stupid than you already are.

I don’t see any jazz on the chart. Where’s Django? Where’s Duke Ellington? How about blues? Where’s BB King? Oh yea, and where’s the good old Grateful Dead?

Nothing new here.
In Japan and China, many parents believe strongly that their children listening to Mozart will make them smarter.
By some estimates, there are 30 million kids in China studying classical piano
Harry Truman performed several pieces by Franz Liszt for the attendees to the Postdam conference.
Our President now has Jay-Z and Lil’Wayne on his Ipod.
Should I assume we are all doomed?

I'm really suprised The Red Hot Chili Peppers break the 4 digit score mark with lyrical gems like this from songs like
Around The World.
I know, I know for sure
Ding dang dong dong ding dang dong dong ding dang
I know, I know it's you
Ding dang dong dong ding dang dong dong ding dang
I guess I'm not intelligent enough to understand/appreciate it.

So Beethoven is "miscellaneous", eh?
Makes perfect sense to me.
No category for "classical".
Probably not a real category.

There’s no rhyme or reason to this. Beethoven at the very top, classical as a genre midpack, Coldplay at the very top, Green Day at the very bottom. Of course, simplistic, kneejerk anti-Americans like Green Day deserve to be at the bottom. Then again, Ludacris, lol, is in the top quarter. So much for thoughfulness.
I’m tempted to say that people of intelligence seek out interesting and intelligent music, rather than being content to follow the crowd, but honestly, this is meaningless.
