The White House press office announced today that Vivek Kundra, the current chief technology officer of Washington DC, will be assuming the position of Federal Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the White House.
The appointment of a top CIO is another first: the position did not exist in any previous administrations. Kundra will also have final say on government technology purchases , and will have the authority to overrule his peers at subordinate agencies.

--------So you're perfectly fine with a ~30 year old who was born in a foreign country, whose first language is Somalian, being instantly put in charge of all IT in the entire US government?-------------
There! I fixed it for you!
Now that we have an honest question that I can answer, I can give you the straight up answer you were requesting.
Yes, I'm perfectly fine with that. It's his IDEOLOGY that I have a problem with. If he's appointed by Obama, we know the likelihood that he's a liberal.(even without the evidence presented)
Can you point to a constitutional reason why he shouldn't get the job?
Remember, elections have consequences.
In eagle’s defense, he did ask for your permission.
********I didn’t see you grant permission, mind you**********
But the request was made nontheless.
That's one hell of a stretch.
Thanks, in post 47 he said quote “you may use the list but you may not call it an OSS ping”. The first person from his list who responded thanked me for the ping as well.
Or did you mean “nationality”?
————Do you really think it’s hurting open source adoption in those places where it’s being mandated by law?-————
It’s hard to say. Those places aren’t “the land of the free, home of the brave” where people have a natural tendency to buck the system.
Not that those people don’t exist in russia, china, cuba, and more. But they’re spoonfed a lot more propaganda on a daily basis than we are, and they’re also more dependent upon their governments too.
It may not make a difference. Those people are all so poor, they’re only going to steal windows or use linux anyways. Either way, there’s no benefit for the US economically.
From a purist standpoint, sure. Government mandates hurt any cause.
It's a level of qualification, unless you believe immigrated citizens are equal to natural born ones. Considering the controversy surrounding Obama's natural born status he'll be glad to hear this.
Well............ Look.
I don’t have a problem with you personally, it’s just your posting habits are so egregious.
You did ask. I saw that. I didn’t see n3wbi3’s yes response, but I did see him acknowledge it somewhere around post 60 or so.
But N3wbi3’s point about your misuse of his ping list also carries merit.
Obama is an ideologue. The likelihood that this guy is an ideologue is a safe bet IMO.
But the article that you originally linked to says nothing definitive about a government mandate of open source. It only says “if”.
Is it something to be fought? Yes. Is it likely? Probably.
But you’ve treated it almost exclusively as if it’s already happened or happening.
And the race baiting is probably the biggest problem of all of your posts. The guy is here legally, jeez. His languages, skin color, or where he was born........ anything else that I have or haven’t seen brought up that fits within this context is just as I said at the beginning of this post:
Egregious.
————It’s a level of qualification, unless you believe immigrated citizens are equal to natural born ones.—————
I do. As a matter of humanity, even illegals are equal to legals and home grown/natural borns.
He’s here legally. Which means his only qualifications are what he knows about computing/technology, and political considerations.(being a CIO or whatever it was means he has executive experience. Not bad at all)
-————Considering the controversy surrounding Obama’s natural born status he’ll be glad to hear this.—————
Another matter altogether. You likely won’t like my stance on this issue.
Another matter altogether. You likely wont like my stance on this issue.
Nor would I be surprised.
Gold Eagle Out
If they are qualified and legal to work in this country then why would nationalization be important?
That was my beef with GE on this one:
The article mentioned two huge reasons to not like this guy
1) Too little experience dealing with enterprises anywhere near the scope that he is walking into
2) Anyone in the executive branch should start with the assumption data is private until evaluated, not the other way around.
—
Instead he brings up Open source (which is not in the article, and nowhere in his history that I can find) and obnoxious xenophobic attacks on immigrants..
Don’t ping me again.
BTW DOD is using more open source (especially for storage) in the classified world than Winblows....
They use Winblows on the Unclass because nothing important or critical is on there....
LOL
If they're going to work in many positions in the Federal government, especially those of high authority, it's very important that they have the best interest of our government at heart, which is exactly why security clearances that include background investigations are done on them. You may not respect or appreciate this need, but it is a long standing and very important one to help ensure our government isn't infiltrated by those who wish to cause it or us harm. There are many flags that, rightfully, are cause for additional investigation, such as being born in a foreign country, being married to someone from a foreign country, etc, which even Obama won't be able to easily overturn if he ever tries.
Well what do you know, the sports talk dude, speaking of being "out" no one's seen you since your football team lost a couple years ago, must have pretty traumatic.
So you claim you can’t find any relation between Obama, his new CIO, and open source? Doesn’t look like you’re looking very hard, if at all:

Need More?
So our government is racist for requiring additional background investigation during security clearances of those born in a foreign country, married to someone from a foreign country, etc? You think we should do away with those requirements completely, and we're racist for flagging them as different than naturally born citizens?
Yes I need more...
My initial request of you, so nice to ignore, is evidence that he *produced* open source or *converterd* closed source to *open source*.
There is a world of difference between using apache and turning things public that should not be..
All of this is besides the point as I have
1) Already said I doubt he is up to the job
2) Already said I am leary of *anyone* Obama appoints
3) Said for year I am against forcing open source in the government

You and I got into it because of your time honored fud about all people from foreign lands and the assumption that because there are some nuts who back OSS (rms) the idea itself is a solid expression of freedom in the American Spirit.
