As a mystery, its a very intriguing tale, but ultimately rather nihilistic.
I remember reading the series when it came out, right before I went to college. It was ground-breaking at the time - violent, dark, often profound. Now every comic book - er, excuse me, graphic novel - tries for the same, and usually misses.
Itll make Dark Knight look like a Will Ferrell comedy.
We can hope. Given Hollywood's usual adaptations of great novels and other written source material, who know?

16 or older could probably handle it. Younger? Nope. This is definitely "adult" stuff.
I'm just jazzed that they seem to be getting so much of the story CORRECT.

You're right. MTV is nonstop garbage, and it is marketed to kids - their viewership tends to be pre-teens and early teens. By college age, most kids have matured enough to realize how dopey it is.
To: Two Kids' Dad
The movie is RATED R, its a movie based on a completely ADULT graphic model, if you think this is a movie for kids, then frankly you are an imbecile.

I was at the “Bad Obama Paintings” site yesterday.

Heh. Love it.
But they forgot the kid with the black cavalier uniform, slouch hat and Guy Fawkes mask. And the daggers.

Who thought the Watchmen was a kids movie? Its rated “R”, and the original comic book was certainly not kid-fare.
This isn’t a “lie”, its lack of parental research.

This isnt a story of Hollywood taking a classic comic super hero like say a superman and making him evil or dark Actually it is. The characters are based upon the Charlton Comics heroes that DC bought. Captain Atom, Blue Beetle, The Question...
DC got cold feet on letting Alan Moore depict them as rapists and murderers.

If you see it yourself, you're also probably a moron and a vapid, indecent human being.
LOL - I wasn't planning to see the movie, having read and loved Watchmen long ago, but with an endorsement like this I guess I have to see it now.
To: Mr. Know It All
Have you read the “graphic novel”?
Have you seen the movie?
“News” is something that’s known.
Speculation is not.

No, I think you misunderstood. I didn’t say anything about thinking this is a movie for kids, I said I was (and am) unfamiliar with the graphic novel and the previews for this movie make it seem like it’s in the theme of a regular superhero movie. I’m not an imbecile, just ignorant of the graphic novel and its story line. I think many people - adults and kids alike - are unaware of the adult nature of it and there’ll probably be some kind of backlash at the way the TV commercials portray it.
To: EveningStar
It’s rated R. And it’s based on the graphic novel that’s generally acknowledged as the mile post when comics stopped being just for kids. While I agree that it’s not for kids I don’t see how Hollywood is being deceptive, the ads are pretty honest about the contents of the story.

I suspect I saw far worse things as a kid than The Watchmen movie. And I turned out (mostly) OK.
And I guess Schussel (whoever the hell she is) never saw the Sin City movie.
