Earlier that same day, the Obama administration had announced it was reviewing a Bush administration regulation known as the conscience clause. That Health and Human Services regulation protects health-care workers at federally funded institutions from having to engage in practices that violate their moral or religious beliefs. These practices include performing or referring abortions, performing sterilizations, or giving or receiving training in these practices.
Federal funding is widespread in the health care sector owing to such programs as Medicare, Medicaid, the newly expanded SCHIP insurance program for children, and the many billions in federal funds spent each year on medical research.
The Obama administrations review is considered the precursor to rescinding the regulation.
I think a lot of us will go to jail, Coburn told CNSNews.com when asked what would happen if the administration reverses the policy. Lets see them prosecute the first one of us for not doing that.
By that comment, Coburn meant that doctors, himself included, are willing to defy the law before agreeing to perform medical procedures that violate their conscience, a Coburn spokesman clarified.
Coburn spoke to CNSNews.com after he delivered a speech at the annual Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) in Washington, D.C., on Friday.
God bless him!
Somehow I think if a Muslim doctor didn’t want to treat a Jewish patient -
Obama would give him dispensation.
"This is the big one, Elizabeth! I'm comin' to join you, honey!"
I guess Rahm-bo will have to pass on the daily Rush-bashing tomorrow, so that he can attack Sen. Coburn instead.
Good man.
This is the kind of man that the Republicans need to nominate for President.

Sounds like a man with some honor and morale conscience. Oklahoma you should be PROUD!!!! to have a man like this representing you.
The general public is totally cluess that obama has the power to ruin this country.
Yeah! A senator with spine. There may be hope after all.
He won’t go to prison. He will just become ineligible for any federal funding. No Medicare or Medicaid reimbursement, nor federal grants to him or any institution which allows him to practice on their premises. Which means he loses all his hospital privileges.
Sen Colburn Thank-you. I wish you were my Senator.
The persecution of Christians is beginning to fire up for the USA.

Received link to this video in my email. Was wondering if anybody else had seen it and, if so, what d’ya think?
I sent Sen. Corburn an email to thank him for this, even though I do not live in his state. I appreciate it, I really do, because folks like him make me proud to be an American.
Seems to me that if you decide to become a pharmacist you pretty much commit yourself to filling legally valid doctor’s RXes. If you think you cannot do that, find another profession.
It’s between me and my doctor what medications I take —the last thing I want is some pharmacist cross-questioning my RXes on any grounds other than MEDICAL. If the pharmacist thinks one of my medications is in conflict with another, or wants to review side effects with me, I welcome his or her input. But I don’t want pharmacists playing God and questioning what medications I take on the pharmacist’s personal “moral” grounds.
It’s pretty safe, btw, for Coburn to take this position and act the
“hero.” He knows HE will never go to jail.
Wonderful. He sets a good example.
Senator Coburn rocks! We are stuck with Bingaman and Udall here.
