That was back in the days of slow connections and barebones web sit. Thank you Jim for all the great enhances you have made.
Gone are the days of waiting for a post to load for 5 minutes and longer if it had pictures included. Gone are the days of being without FreeRepublic and really slow response times when something big was happening. if the server was down or they had to do maintenance. Gone are the days of the post patrol. Who were self appointed Post hall Monitors that ratted you out and complained about everything. Any one remember Quidam? What person that got banned did you find frustrating? Gone are the freepers who were self appointed professors of grammatical errors. What keeps me coming back is more complex. Mainly it is the Wesite itself. Where else could you go to read articles from newspapers from all over the world that are of particular interest to conservatives. Where else could you communicate with conservatives from all over the world.
Pet peeves: Those who feel they are self appointed evanglists and need to point out every post how Mormons aren't Christians etc etc. they can't just confine themselves to the topic at hand. Those same freepers do not have the level of passion when agnostic or atheist consveratives share their views. CS Lewis is right - the Devil loves keeping religious people fighting among themselves.
People who use Loose instead of lose. Not because it is an error but because it takes reading the sentence more than once to figure out which word it should be.
The new commercials put out by the Union and Characters count. What liberal drivel that is. The commercials are set so loud that I have to keep the clicker nearby to mute the sound, and on some channels they are shown 5 times a show.
Democrats in general but especially those who feel they know what All Americans think and believe. The more divided the issue the more they use the "The American people want us to ......"
Drug commercials in general but those for ED and STDs in particular. Who in their right mind would take any of the drugs they push on television after the disclaimer= "In some cases it could cause death".

I came from AOL.
I have been here about 20 minutes now.
My pet peeve is the new folks who insist on < s > tags.
My old pet peeve was folks who didn’t close their tags and the rest of the thread was in italians.
Seriously, I heard about a rally outside of Lieberman’s house here in CT on the radio. I did a search and it came up with a thread from FR. I have been here ever since.
1. The Land of Pleasant Living
2. 29 November 2000 (lurked for a year before hand)
3. I’m addicted.
4. Consocialism (Conservative Socialism)
I got here in 1998 as well. It was a wonderful time, I had no idea until I got here how many like-minded individuals were frustrated with Clinton.
Remember the constant posting of BTT (back to top) to try and get visibility of specific threads :)
In many ways it is the same again, here we are with a president who is stirring the conservative silent majority.
My pet peeve is vanities that have no value or are not well thought out. I have no problem with someone spending 30 or more minutes to write a multi-paragraph well thought out viewpoint or opinion and posting it as an article. I hate one liners and threads that fill up with one liners.
Since August of '07
What is it that keeps you coming back?
I'm a news jumkie
What is your Pet Peeve?
The posting of the same stories over and over again.
Huh?
1.Friggin newb vanities
2.Is there a "banned freeper" list?
3.I miss the "Ash Alerts"
4. My best bookmarks don't work anymore
I could go on...
Been a freeper since 97. Have been reading and many times a day ever since. Love it.
My biggest pet peeve is FReepers that “put words in my post”. In other words, assume they know what I am thinking and know my political philosophy after a one line post.
1} Drudge Report, Whitewater Files link
2} Nov 5,1998
3} Like minded folks, informed commentary and jovial friendships :-)

2. How long have you been here?
Since 16 July 1998.
3. What is it that keeps you coming back?
My desire to always know The Latest.
4. What is your Pet Peeve?
Grammatical errors such as "here, here", "tow the line", "alot", etc.

1. I came to FR via a relatively unknown website that was a link from Mancow’s Morning Madhouse’s website called “The Truth”. It was a really good site - lots of info regarding liberalism, the Clinton’s, etc. It’s the kind of site that was run by one guy, but definitely helped to open my eyes.
2. I’ve been here since late 1999 but officially signed up in May of 2000.
3. What keeps me coming back is the up-to-date news articles along with the commentary from many of the posters on this site. I also look a lot for the pings from JoeBrower, SunkenCiv, JerseyRepublicanBikerChick, etc, as well as the hilarious commentary provided by FReepers such as RedBadger, Tijeras Slim, and Lazamataz - keep it up all of you! Sometimes you guys get me ROFLMAO!
4. My pet peeve is me apartment neighbor who plays their music too damn loud and then complain about me “walking all the way over [there]” to tell them to turn it down...oh, wait, you meant pet peeve on FR? That would be people who argue on this site. It’s one thing to have an intense discussion, it’s a whole ‘nother thing to have that discussion devolve into name calling and telling one another to kiss each others a$$...
1. Followed a link from Sean Hannity’s site.
2. Nov. 26, 2000, after the Gore debacle, and before the election was decided.
3. I keep coming back because this is where news seems to break first, all in one spot. And the analysis that follows the news items.
4. My mail pet peeve is rap music. If you want to listen to that stuff, roll your window up. I don’t play my music loud enough to be “in your face”, offer me the same courtesy.
I was just surfing the internet one day, looking for some info, and found myself at FR. That was sometime around 1999. I tried to register to post, but the system didn't seem to like the Hotmail email account I was trying to use. So, I just lurked until I couldn't stand it no more, and registered with another email account,
3. What is it that keeps you coming back.
Information. Tons of it, covering diverse subjects.
4. What is your Pet Peeve?
I assume pertaining to FR? A toss up: FReepers looking for fights against other Freepers. Having a difference of opinion is one thing, but looking for a pissing contest just frost me; and FReepers who allow their emotions to overide their logic...
1. Where did you come from?
2. How long have you been here?
3. What is it that keeps you coming back.
4. What is your Pet Peeve?
On board in 1998 (also)...very active early on (maybe too active at times)...lost my enthusiasm for the board when the 'newbie' moderators ('wanabees,' not Jim) became overly protective of the 'new blood' whose interpretations of conservatism were more RINOish than not...and now I keep 'droppin' by' for the links to a lot good information...BUT still not too active because of the over abundance of RINO 'maroons' (and 'trolls') still posting their crap.
Bump to answer later.
First saw FR in 1996. Though it appealed to me I never became a regular reader and forgot about it. Rediscovered it in 2002 or 2003 as the result of it being mentioned on Rush and National Review. Been here since 2005 as a poster.
I keep coming back for the news I would otherwise miss and the breadth and depth of knowledge and insight and humor the posters have.
Irritations:
unnecessary use of video - postings of video of a talking head telling me a news item when there is a perfectly good text version of that news article available.
news from nowhere - news articles about something that happened but you don’t know where even after reading the whole article. Sometimes I even go to the base URL of the posted article and still have to hunt around to figure out where the ‘east picayune journal sentinel’ is from.
What is it that keeps you coming back.
A) Humor—there some entertaining people here
B)Reports and photos from Tea Parties, Sarah Palin Rallies and the Gathering of Eagles—well done people!!
4. What is your Pet Peeve?
A)Mormon,Catholic,and Evangelist bashing!!!

C) the Bashing of us urban dwellers....
1) There are quite a few of us on this site who live in the cities by choice
