Once a year I make a post to get to know the Newbies and find out about the oldbie Freepers.
This year with all the chaotic seriousness we are facing I thought to add one more question to my standard old ones.
They are simple questions yet complex.
1. Where did you come from? 2. How long have you been here? 3. What is it that keeps you coming back. 4. What is your Pet Peeve?
1. I came to FR via a relatively unknown website that was a link from Mancow’s Morning Madhouse’s website called “The Truth”. It was a really good site - lots of info regarding liberalism, the Clinton’s, etc. It’s the kind of site that was run by one guy, but definitely helped to open my eyes.
2. I’ve been here since late 1999 but officially signed up in May of 2000.
3. What keeps me coming back is the up-to-date news articles along with the commentary from many of the posters on this site. I also look a lot for the pings from JoeBrower, SunkenCiv, JerseyRepublicanBikerChick, etc, as well as the hilarious commentary provided by FReepers such as RedBadger, Tijeras Slim, and Lazamataz - keep it up all of you! Sometimes you guys get me ROFLMAO!
4. My pet peeve is me apartment neighbor who plays their music too damn loud and then complain about me “walking all the way over [there]” to tell them to turn it down...oh, wait, you meant pet peeve on FR? That would be people who argue on this site. It’s one thing to have an intense discussion, it’s a whole ‘nother thing to have that discussion devolve into name calling and telling one another to kiss each others a$$...
Same here.
1. Followed a link from Sean Hannity’s site.
2. Nov. 26, 2000, after the Gore debacle, and before the election was decided.
3. I keep coming back because this is where news seems to break first, all in one spot. And the analysis that follows the news items.
4. My mail pet peeve is rap music. If you want to listen to that stuff, roll your window up. I don’t play my music loud enough to be “in your face”, offer me the same courtesy.
I was just surfing the internet one day, looking for some info, and found myself at FR. That was sometime around 1999. I tried to register to post, but the system didn't seem to like the Hotmail email account I was trying to use. So, I just lurked until I couldn't stand it no more, and registered with another email account,
3. What is it that keeps you coming back.
Information. Tons of it, covering diverse subjects.
4. What is your Pet Peeve?
I assume pertaining to FR? A toss up: FReepers looking for fights against other Freepers. Having a difference of opinion is one thing, but looking for a pissing contest just frost me; and FReepers who allow their emotions to overide their logic...
Oh, what I really miss is “The Viking Kitties” video. I don’t see that anymore.

On board in 1998 (also)...very active early on (maybe too active at times)...lost my enthusiasm for the board when the 'newbie' moderators ('wanabees,' not Jim) became overly protective of the 'new blood' whose interpretations of conservatism were more RINOish than not...and now I keep 'droppin' by' for the links to a lot good information...BUT still not too active because of the over abundance of RINO 'maroons' (and 'trolls') still posting their crap.

Yes, not closing tags and suffering the rest of the thread in “Italians” IS VERY ANNOYING!
????
I’ve worn out and had to replace three “Refresh” buttons on my computer screen.
First saw FR in 1996. Though it appealed to me I never became a regular reader and forgot about it. Rediscovered it in 2002 or 2003 as the result of it being mentioned on Rush and National Review. Been here since 2005 as a poster.
I keep coming back for the news I would otherwise miss and the breadth and depth of knowledge and insight and humor the posters have.
Irritations:
unnecessary use of video - postings of video of a talking head telling me a news item when there is a perfectly good text version of that news article available.
news from nowhere - news articles about something that happened but you don’t know where even after reading the whole article. Sometimes I even go to the base URL of the posted article and still have to hunt around to figure out where the ‘east picayune journal sentinel’ is from.
What is it that keeps you coming back.
A) Humor—there some entertaining people here
B)Reports and photos from Tea Parties, Sarah Palin Rallies and the Gathering of Eagles—well done people!!
4. What is your Pet Peeve?
A)Mormon,Catholic,and Evangelist bashing!!!
...live and let live people.....
B) Doom and Gloomers!!!
.....get involved or get out....
C) the Bashing of us urban dwellers....
1) There are quite a few of us on this site who live in the cities by choice
2) We are as conservative as our allies in rural America.....we are on YOUR side
3) Often times we are the front line troops in battles with the left....we see them 24/7
D) Regional prejudices
1)there are NRA,military supporting free market conservative born and raised up North
2) there are left wing radicals born and raised in the South

See my answers from last year.
Pet Peeve: Vanities.
Her writings were also amazing and her sharp whit had no equal.
Rest in peace dear lady.....we still love and admire you.
Yes, I lurked for almost a year until I had learned some of the basics for coding HTML. It’s almost funny how many of the newbies cannot post a picture and have to ask how to do it. I guess we need to start a “Sandbox” thread again.

My parents.
2. How long have you been here?
Here on FR? Eight years.
3. What is it that keeps you coming back.
Best source of news. Oh, and the vanity threads, of course.
4. What is your Pet Peeve?
Socks that have bad stitching around the toe and people who use apostrophes for plurals.
