BISBEE Theres something new in the Warren Community Church yard that is the result of a Boy Scouts Eagle service project.
Sunday after church, 17-year-old Michael Donahue of Troop 1 in Bisbee unveiled his Eagle Scout project that took nearly two years to complete. It was the original Scout sign for Troop 401 that used to reside at the former clubhouse of the scouts.
Donahue had to raise $400 to pay for the project, which included a new rock base, wood repair and repainting of the sign.
This sign was once in front of the Boy Scout meeting hall down the road and was built as another scouts Eagle project in 1968 in celebration of Troop 401s 50th anniversary, he explained.
The repainted sign and new rock wall were dedicated to Pastor Jack McCann, who was instrumental in keeping Troop 401 active.
Pastor Jack McCann played a huge role in chartering our troop and keeping it alive throughout the years. He dedicated much of his time to helping out with troop activities and making sure the troop was running smoothly, Donahue added.
The troop was actually the first Boy Scout troop in Arizona. As the legend goes, Bisbee city fathers stopped a train bound for Phoenix and kidnapped the heads of the Boy Scouts of America, said Greg Linden who has been with the troop for the past 13 years. The officials were to present the first charter to a troop in Phoenix. After whisking them off to Bisbee, the national scout organizers agreed to grant Bisbee its charter in 1918, making it the first scout troop in Arizona.
Since the troop is Arizonas first, they decided to change their troop number from 401 to 1 in honor of that distinction, added Scoutmaster Terry Feldman.
Feldman couldnt have been prouder of his newest Eagle-rank scout. Donahue was the third scout to reach the distinguished rank during his time as head of the troop. And hes particularly proud that four more scouts are working on their Eagle Scout projects, too.
The Eagle rank is like scoutings Ph.D. They have to pick a project, propose it, raise money for it and then manage it from beginning to end, Feldman said.
Mayor Jack Porter commended the young man on his accomplishment and recalled his own days in the scouts in Troop 406 in Old Bisbee. He told Donahue that he was in some pretty good company with the likes of Neil Armstrong, Steven Spielberg, Sam Nunn, Walter Cronkite, Jimmy Stewart, Ross Perot and others, all of whom were Eagle award recipients.
Pastor Warren Griffin said, Jack (McCann) would be very proud as we all are. Scouting is a good example for all young boys and I hope to see more come into scouting.

I agree with you.
Thanks for the ping!

Well you signed up 4 years ago, Haven’t added anything to your profile, and all I see you do here is haunt the HA threads and play ‘devil’s advocate’.
That says a lot about you...
Yes, please do, but if you look over my entire history, you’ll see that I’ve posted on a variety of topics from serious topics like law and the Supreme Court to something as silly as video games. It’s my recent history that has focused more on the homosexual agenda threads, so DirtyHarry’s positions is perhaps understandable.
In fact, I used to frequently post on legal topics. I’ve posted breaking news on a variety of Supreme Court oral arguments and decisions. I’ve avoided the legal and SCOTUS threads recently because almost all of them have been about Obama’s birth certificate. Regardless of whether Zero’s certificate is real or not, I don’t think the courts are going to a darn thing about it, so it’s just too frustrating to wade into those areas. Homosexual agenda threads temporarily filled that gap, I suppose. I think I’ve always been civil on those threads, regardless of what people have said on them.
And that’s simply the way it is. Lots of FReepers never touch their profiles, I will gladly fill out my profile if it would some posters here happy. I don’t really see the need, but I’ll gladly do so.
Take care and God Bless to both of you.
I apologize for posting my responses to his comments to you, SandRat, but when he replies to you and talks about me, I’m tempted to defend myself and make sure you see it, and thus the cycle repeats. I’ll end it though.
There is nothing DirtyHarry and I really need to work through. We know where we stand and we aren’t going to agree.
Apologies again. Take care. And see you around FR on OTHER threads. ;)
They already have a forum for that.. www.democraticunderground.com
I was wondering why that keyword was added too, it looked odd to me. Good on the troop for doing this.
Nice job, Scout Donahue.
This unit is in my District.
