"They hit the door right here and the door flew open," says Mike Hasenei, standing outside his Elkridge home.
His wife, Phyllis, was watching television with her 12-year old daughter when members of the Howard County Police Tactical Team came through the door.
"They had guns pointed at us. You have 25 guys coming in here all dressed in black and all that we saw were their eyes, and they're screaming 'Hands in the air!'"
Members of the team were acting upon a tip that an assault rifle, magazines and hollow-point bullets stolen from a marked police car the night before may be located inside.
Adding insult to injury, when the search led police to a back bedroom where they encountered the familys dog, they opened fire.
Officers found no evidence of the stolen goods after ransacking the house.
At this point a complaint has been logged against the department, but Howard County Police aren't about to admit they were wrong or to apologize for their actions.
"No. We didn't find a weapon in this particular case, said Sherry Llewellyn, a spokeswoman for the department, but that doesn't mean that there wasn't good information that there were weapons there before we had a chance to get inside the house."
Now, Mike Hasenei is waiting on an Internal Affairs investigation into the raid before deciding whether he and his family will take the department to court.
"I'm not gonna sit down and let people walk all over me and say 'sorry' and walk out of my house."
“Its almost impossible for citizens to overthrow a totalitarian dictatorship once it reaches the height of its power.”
I disagree. History proves you wrong. Our revolution; the French Revolution; the Russian Revolution; the Mexican Revolution. And those are just a sampling.
Too bad somebody doesn’t have your address, phone number, and a caller ID spoofer. You might sneer out the other side of your face, after the SWAT team showed up, then exited laughing, while boasting “we had good information”.
Unfortunately, I’m beginning to view defending cops as a serious flaw in character or judgment.
How many times does a Ford, Chevy, or Chrysler have to let you down before you start to figure out those idiots buying the rice burners aren’t really the stupid ones.
And super defensive of their “pack/herd”. It would have raised a heck of a ruckus. They are wonderful dogs.
Federal government, not since Reagan. State and local, never that I can recall. I was an anti-hippie patriot in the 60's but as a rather libertarian conservative, could seldom argue with their indictment of the exercise of police power by the State. You only need one run-in with an honest-to-god dishonest a-hole PIG to solve that dilemma. Permanently.
“My relative turned and shot the dog who had not yet moved or made a sound.”
Probably was a story for humor around the precinct. What a man to to that.
Aha! Obviously under suspicion of being a Mormon. Well. That's a good reason to kill a family pet.

The cop that shoots her ... well the expression is: "Hell hath no fury ....."
Be patient, wait, years if needed, and take nine.
Man, he wouldn’t be on my Christmas card list any more...
Why wait? I don't know about Phyllis, but her 12 y.o. daughter and certainly the now dead family dog didn't do much of anything to deserve what happened. Law suits for everyone, maybe some jail time where appropriate.
Sorry someone already said this. I posted after I read the story but had not read the other posts. Including the first. Sorry all.
sounds to me like your relative is a major a-hole, no offense intended.
If cops weren't getting killed, there wouldn't be so many innocent civilians being killed.
While I'm very much against the JBTs, you should note that many good cops are, too, and that you'll likely find cops in the trenches with us as 0bama's offensive gears up.
And I do hope you have as much anger toward criminals who threaten good cops to the point that they get aggressive to protect themselves.
C'mon. It's not hard. Lord Acton identified it long ago "Power tends to corrupt." At the cop level that means getting badge-happy and swinging your iron dick around is a rush.
These turds shoot family pets because they know the pet can't defend himself. They really should be in a different line of work--like interior decorating or hair dressing, where they can't hurt anybody.
Maybe. but this was an Australian Cattle Dog. Different breed, and smarter than an Australian Shepherd or Border Collie. (Think about it. Cattle are bigger, meaner, and smarter than sheep)
Fed LE lost my trust after Ruby Ridge and Waco. Then, these no knock raids conducted at the local level, all too often against innocent citizens, is a crime against humanity.
America has become a police state mimicking turd world commie govts.
Freedom, and our Constitution, is dead. I don’t know how, or if, we can ever recover our lost freedoms.
My local LEO’s often dress in full military combat gear. Yet in all my years in my community, I’ve never seen nor ever heard of, a shoot out between LE and some crazed citizen. So I figure it is an intimidation tactic preparing us for what is to come. But as we most know, it is already here.
