Oklahoma Fossil Identified as New Species

An ancient skull found by an amateur Oklahoma paleontologist at an old rock quarry near Lawton turned out to be a new species unknown to scientists.

Coweta accountant Tony Morris found the skull about three years ago in a pile of rubble with a group from the Tulsa Rock and Mineral Society.

It's about the size of a shoebox with a single row of teeth protruding from one edge.

Now researchers are ready to say the fossil is that of a previously unknown species and is a that from a lizardlike creature in the cacops family.

The animal is described as looking somewhat like a crocodile with a large head.

Morris has donated the fossil to the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History in Norman.

They found a skull from a previously unknown species and they’ve determined that the animal had a large head. If all they have is the head, how they declare the head large? By what measure?

I know it’s a tradition, but must we always ruin a perfectly good thread by activating the gag reflex.

West Virginia fossils rarely have teeth.

I noticed this on the same page:

Man lives on whiskey for two days

A man who was trapped under his sofa for two and a half days survived by sipping whiskey.

Joe Galliott from Somerset, England fell over a phone cord and landed on the sofa which then landed on top of him, leaving him trapped.

He was eventually freed 60 hours later after drinking from a whiskey bottle that had also toppled.
