A group of Evanston friends thought it was funny when a man fell on the ice, but the situation quickly turned ugly when the fallen man drew a gun and shot one of them.
The incident occurred about 12:30 a.m. Saturday when the victim was standing outside with friends near 704 Florence in Evanston, according to a report from Evanston police.
When the group saw a man fall on the ice, they started to laugh at him, but he wasn't amused. The man pulled a gun and fired a shot, striking the victim in the ankle, the report said.
The victim was treated at a local hospital, the report said. No one else was injured.
The gunman was described only as a man wearing dark clothing.
Further information was not immediately available.
Short fuse on that guy.....lol.
Anyone wanna bet alcohol was involved?
> See how stupid your european point of views are?
> No fool.
1) I’m not a European. Never been to Europe, either.
2) That’s the second time on this thread you have called me a fool. I didn’t like it the first time but let it slide. Please don’t do that again, and keep a civil tongue in your head. I only debate with people who have good manners: those who have bad manners go onto the Plonker List.
Now to your arguments:
> We have legal guns and that is the proof that americans (in general) do not succumb to that kind of selfish knee jerk behavior.
Instead, you Americans have armed plonkers who will shoot innocent bystanders in the ankle when said armed plonker slips on ice. That’s a good thing why? Strangely enough, that never happens in New Zealand, and our per-capita ownership of guns is extremely high. I wonder why that is?
> Unfortunately, americans are becoming more and more like you.
So much so that conservative Americans are flocking here in droves, as the last bastion of Freedom as they know it. Soon, all you’ll have left there is Obama and his communist yahoos, and they are going to take away your guns! I’ll get to keep mine, tho’.
> maybe we should outlaw private ownership of automobiles. People die in those you know. Its a proven fact that trains, planes, and buses are safer.
Else I’m mistaken, that’s on Obama’s radar. Fat lot of good your second amendment does you.
> And its not fair that some people can afford nice cars and others cant. We really should confiscate all the cars.
He won’t do that: he’ll just tax petrol until t is too expensive to drive. That’s how socialist gummints work.
Lucky for me, our NZ gummint is Conservative. I get to keep my car. It’s a Chrysler.
> I know you dont feel that way now, but just wait until YOU get killed in a car. THEN you will feel different, wont you?
If I’m dead I won’t feel anything. And anyrate, I’m more likely to be eaten by a shark or killed in a dark alley or deserted park than in a car. This is the life I have chosen. In a free country like New Zealand, we get to choose things like that.
> See how stupid your european point of views are?
Frankly no. Remind me why living under socialism like you do is a good idea? I think it really must suck.

Additionally, carrying a gun has three times in civilian life saved me from being severely beaten up (or possibly killed) by thugs. Fortunately, I never had to fire my .45 -- just showing it was all it took.
I don't leave home without it.
I did however fire it on one occasion — on one occasion I fired it when one of a gang of kids tried to reach in the partially open window of my car to open the door — I rested the barrel on top of the window (about six or eight inches from his left ear, and cut loose — didn't take him long to change his mind. And as the punks broke speed records back toward their car, I put a couple round through its hood. I still wonder how the punks explained that one to family or friends.
My money says the shooter is a typical gangsta thug and when he's not slipping on ice, he's robbing liquor stores. I'm sure he lost the right to legally own a gun many years and pages of felonies ago. Suing him probably wouldn't do much good.
He was not justified in shooting at them but they would have been justified in killing him.
One of the great failings of American society is that we have made stupidity far less fatal than it should be.

I generally believe in the right to keep and bear arms. As a NZer I’m not too comfortable with it being an absolute right, and I don’t believe it should be universal.
Even in NZ there are morons who ought never be allowed anywhere near a gun, except at the pointy end. These morons are dangerous to themselves and others and need weeding out from gun ownership IMO.
Obviously theres only one solution here. Ice skating should be banned.
You are probably correct about the nature of the shooter. I sure hope you are.
Boy, was it hilarious.

An armed society is a polite society.
Ooooh, I was luckier than that. It happens so darn fast, too! I would NOT appreciate anyone laughing at me at that point.
banana heels, that’s funny. LOL.
Ok, you aren’t merely a fool. You’re an idiot. And a pompous jackass. “plonkers” arm themselves. America doesn’t “arm” them. In america, we don’t like waiting for permission from our overlords.
You have no idea what the hell you are talking about. and I dont’ have the patience to explain the concept of the second amendment or the bill of rights to a pompous foreigner convinced of his superiority.
BTW, I never called you european. I only indicated that you have the same disgusting attitude. I consider it an insult to accuse someone of “european” ideas. I meant it as an insult, and I expected you can take it as an insult. Unfortunately you just weren’t bright enough to pick up on it.
So put me on your “plonker” list and then you can sit there imagining that I am hurt by being deprived of your sickening european ideas. Please, plonker me, PLEASE.
“We laugh.
But there will be more of this.
Much more.
More than anyone could ever imagine.”
I concur... as the earth continues cooling we will have much more ice and that means many more people with guns will be falling on their butts... so it only stands to reason.
:-0 Are you serious? Did you report the incident to the police? If not, you probably were smart not to do so.
I was involved in a road rage incident once where two other vehicles blocked mine in. When one driver got out of his car, I got out of mine, naively believing he probably wasn’t intending to hurt me - he was a big dude, and I was a small woman. He did threaten to knock me down, and when I got back in my car, he came right up to the window. He was never found/caught, even though I gave 911 the license plate numbers. Here in my very blue state, the police told me there is no permit to carry. (They were lying. There is, but it’s very difficult to obtain.) Anyway, since I was foolish enough to report the incident, I’d probably never qualify now here.
Actually, as someone pointed out in post #44, we really don't know exactly what happened. The supposed man dressed in black who allegedly slipped on the ice and shot someone in the ankle was never found. Who knows if he even exists? This is the story the shooting victim and his friends are telling, but who knows what really happened...
conservative Americans are flocking here in droves, as the last bastion of Freedom as they know it....
Lucky for me, our NZ gummint is Conservative.

I've heard that New Zealand is beautiful. But, NZ already is more socialist than the U.S. When we complain about Obama, we fear our country will become more like countries such as New Zealand. New Zealand has the things we oppose, such as socialized medicine. Any American who moves there can't be a conservative seeking freedom.
