A group of Evanston friends thought it was funny when a man fell on the ice, but the situation quickly turned ugly when the fallen man drew a gun and shot one of them.
The incident occurred about 12:30 a.m. Saturday when the victim was standing outside with friends near 704 Florence in Evanston, according to a report from Evanston police.
When the group saw a man fall on the ice, they started to laugh at him, but he wasn't amused. The man pulled a gun and fired a shot, striking the victim in the ankle, the report said.
The victim was treated at a local hospital, the report said. No one else was injured.
The gunman was described only as a man wearing dark clothing.
Further information was not immediately available.
Zorro must be very old by now. No wonder he slipped on the ice!
The only thing wrong was the usual problem, not everyone was armed. If the laughers had been carrying, the falling guy would have been ventilated, and righfully so.
Ah, frontier justice!
Good thing it wasn’t a banana peel.
There isn’t much info re the injury. A gun shot in the ankle could due some serious damage. It gets little more than a passing comment in the article. Could be a kid with a pellet gun.
So much for laughing at the so called banana peel fall.
This is Evanston Illinois , due north of Chicago. I even think I lived in that neighborhood after highschool 4 decades ago. Evanston is a beautiful city serving as the home for Northwestern U., where Charlton Heston went about SIX decades ago. Unbelievably beautiful homes all along the lakefront and Lake Shore Drive and Sheridan Road, which, going north leads you into the other wealthy suburbs of Winnetka, Wilmette, Hubbard Woods (think Home Alone), GLencoe, Highland Park, Ravinia (of Festival fame),etc. I hope that answered your question. Yes, I miss it there.
 Comedy Gold!
Some people really need to learn the Candid Camera theme song.
It’s fun to laugh at yourself. It’s a tonic, tried and true.
It’s fun to laugh at yourself as other people do.
I carry a firearm everywhere I go. This story makes me mad that the guy is such an idiot. It’s only a fortunate accident that the shooter only got someone’s ankle and not a life-threatening shot. People are rude, inconsiderate and even cruelly mocking sometimes, but drawing and then firing a gun over it?
Did you mean to say, “righfully”? I mean, it could have been a double entendre’...
I wonder how they laughed, and I wonder if the guy was hurt when he fell. Maybe they were laughing WITH him, and he overreacted (to understate it). OTOH, maybe he was hurt when he fell, and they stood there, refusing to help him, and mocked and derided him. The guy was wrong, but I'll bet they won't stand around mocking and deriding the next person they see slip and fall on the ice.
Large beautiful homes and stuffed to the gills with brainless liberals.
Evanston is one of those picure postcard kind of places, but you sure as hell wouldn't want to live there.

Shoot someone over a bad joke on me? Damn, the body count would've been horrendous by now!
True humor is the ability to laugh at ones self
Lesson?
Be careful what you say and do. Not everyone sees humor in the pain and bad fortune of themselves or others.
I don’t think it’s a bit funny to laugh at someone who has just fallen. I had a bad fall three weeks ago and if anyone had laughed, I might have thrown something at them. I hit my head on the corner of a building and that’s not funny. People are so stupid to laugh at something like that.
Evanston is probably the roughest of the North Shore suburbs. It has its little ghetto pockets. But it has some beautiful streets and impressive Civil War homes.
I was going to say that some of us aren't smart enough not to laugh at the guy with the gun.
That’ll learn ‘em.
After reading the story, and reflecting a while, I'm thinking Homer Simpson, times four or five. He lasted twenty seasons, so they thought it must be OK.
