A group of Evanston friends thought it was funny when a man fell on the ice, but the situation quickly turned ugly when the fallen man drew a gun and shot one of them.
The incident occurred about 12:30 a.m. Saturday when the victim was standing outside with friends near 704 Florence in Evanston, according to a report from Evanston police.
When the group saw a man fall on the ice, they started to laugh at him, but he wasn't amused. The man pulled a gun and fired a shot, striking the victim in the ankle, the report said.
The victim was treated at a local hospital, the report said. No one else was injured.
The gunman was described only as a man wearing dark clothing.
Further information was not immediately available.
Beats the heck out of, "Hey you kids! Get off my lawn!!!"
Give a stupid man a gun and he’ll make stupid decisions about shooting someone...
They ought to train people about the *reasons* why one might shoot someone... LOL...

If you choose not to offer help and sympathy to someone who stumbles that is your choice. If you choose to laugh at them bear in mind that they might make it your last laugh.
As wrong as this is, I’ll bet they quit laughing pretty quick.

Somehow you Yanks need to arrive at a reasonable balance: how to make sure those folk who are smart enough to carry guns can always do so without government interference, balanced against keeping guns out of the hands of knuckleheads and crims.
This story tells me you ain’t got that balance quite right yet. But it was Hell Funny all the same!

Hey, we're all smart enough to carry guns. Some of us just aren't smart enough to stay off the ice though.
I hope they both lock up this idiot and sue the pants off him. Clear example of someone who should not have a firearm. What a non-reason to fire a gun at someone. If he doesn’t have enough common sense or self control, he should not be able to have one. This is one case where taking guns away from him is right. He’s shown he cannot use them responsibly, and has no judgment when it is right to use them.
To paraphrase Lincoln, you can stop some of the idiots all of the time, you may even stop all of the idiots some of the time, but you can’t stop all of the idiots all of the time.
Chalk it up to the price of freedom.
