In Indiana, requiring encoding, plus a $0.05 per round tax. Not bad for the larger (and more expensive) calibers, but that will easily double the cost of .22 ammo.
Taxing each round "not bad"? You're a fool if you believe that.
Existing ammunition? What existing ammunition? I have never owned any ammunition! //sarc off//
Gonna need lots of bureaucrats to manage this program!
Virtually the same bill language in every state. They tried this in Missouri last year and it didn’t make it out of committee.
Let your state Reps know this ain’t going to fly. Some city cops are all for it so be watchful. It’s all about catching criminals don’t ya know! (and making a few more in the process).
These people behind this national effort are traitors.
And the British thought the Boston tea party was bad....
Wait until Americans start turning in their unmarked ammunition through the barrel of a gun.
It would outlaw reloading. No way this will pass.
Ths is the 2008 summary. What about the 2009 summary?
Screw them, let them make all the rules that they want, nobody is going to follow them. Every day we get closer to war in this country. It is about time for another cleansing then we can start fresh again.
This is what the propane industry did several years ago when they had the government outlaw the refilling of most all existing propane cylinders. There wasn't a problem with the old ones, it just created a market where everyone had to replace millions of existing cylinders at their own expense.
Reloaders are a minority.
Don't be so sure it won't.
Fortunately that's one area where we have a surplus. [/cynic]
Another case of a company that "invents" a technology, then tries to shove it down our throats by using the iron hand of government.
The "company" needs to be put out of business.
LOL, allow me to clarify... 5 cents per round is not a huge tax when considering large calibers, which can be almost a buck a round. A 5-10% tax is surprisingly low for the Dems. Personally, ANY ammo tax is offensive and moronic, as are the rules for ammo encoding (as if the bad guys won’t just use the newly-created black market to get “clean” ammo which can be easily and cheaply made by anyone with reloading equipment, etc).
Sorry there Mr. Government man...
What, pray tell, do you teach?
I just read through the sample legislation at the link, and, although it is a dumb, expensive idea, I don’t see that it would outlaw hand loading. It would require that you load the new, “encoded” bullets, though.
