LOS ANGELES -- Ricardo Montalban, the Mexican-born actor who became a star in splashy MGM musicals and later as the wish-fulfilling Mr. Roarke in TV's "Fantasy Island," died Wednesday morning at his home, a city councilman said. He was 88. Montalban's death was announced at a meeting of the city council by president Eric Garcetti, who represents the district where the actor lived. Garcetti did not give a cause of death.

Corinthian Leather. One of the best marketing gimmicks of all time. The stuff was produced in a plant in New Jersey and the "Corinthian" was purely a marketing ploy.

I seem to remember his being interviewed by Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show. When asked by Johnny about what it was like to be a “Latin Lover,” Montalban replied (something to the effect) of, “My father was the real Latin lover.” When Johnny’s interest piqued, Montalban continued, “Yes, he was married for fifty years to the same woman and was faithful to her every day. That’s a real Latin lover.” Johnny looked like the bird of paradise flew up his nose!

And, of course, one of my favorite lines (from "Naked Gun"):

Jane (Priscilla Presley): How could you do something so vicious?
Vincent (Ricardo Montalban): It was easy, my dear. You forget that I spent three years as a building contractor!

Quien es mas macho?
Fernando Llamas o Ricardo Montalban?
Muy Difficil.
Old SNL skit with a spanish gameshow "quien es mas macho" Bill Murray was the host.

I was just thinking about him yesterday, and wondering how he was doing.
Rest in peace.

Rest in Peace. I enjoyed the, “Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan”
very much as well as many other of his roles. He had a good long run.

If you mean Patrick McGoohan as number one, I wonder about the 3rd. If you did not, you have your answer.

Vincent Ludwig: Inspector Drebin, welcome.
Frank Drebin: The feeling is mutual.
Vincent Ludwig: Nice to meet you too... He offers Drebin some cigars ... Cuban?
Frank Drebin: Err, no, Dutch-Irish, my father was from Wales.

Check out a movie of his called "Mystery Street" made in 1950. TCM ran it and I found it by chance. TCM has a trailer for it on their page.

I hereby admit “Fantasy Island” was one of my favorites when I was a kid, even though we joked about it in later years.
Rest in peace, Senor Montalban. Sounds like he lived a long and full life.

Patrick McGoohan was Number 6 :D
I was just making sure there wasn’t a third good actor over 80 for $500.
