I've worked as a prosecutor. Defendants always piss and moan about the unprofessionalism of the police, but I have yet to see any when I pull the tapes.

I'm sure it happens, but I have yet to see it.

Right, compliant and polite in the face of tyranny.

This “cop” belongs in prison with half of congress. Chevydude is 100% in the right and did nothing wrong.

I’ve had plenty of trouble with police officers in my lifetime but since growing up, I look back and realize I was the one responsible for the trouble each and every time. In most cases, officers were far more tolerant of me than I would have been.

You may not agree with a speed limit but that’s too bad, speeding is still illegal. Same with drugs and only a moron takes their disagreement with the law out on the cop.

“”””””””i’m getting ready to go through and he reads my lips as i for some reason say stupid freaking liberals which he wasn’t supposed to hear....

You weren’t being polite.”””””

i was about 100 ft away he wasn’t supposed to see or hear that

and it wasn’t directly towards him

I was more mad at the horrible system in which i couldn’t tell where to go...the street work was confusing and I don’t know why i yelled it out but i said “stupid freaking liberals” which was a knock on the system and not the officer personally...

I live in nj so everything is screwed up over here

> so your saying its ok for the officer to abuse his power even though i’m being polite the whole time and i should be arrested for not breaking the law

No, I’m saying that you should pick your fights more intelligently. You walked right into his trap and provoked him, and then were surprised that he gave you the works.

It wasn’t OK for him to give you the works, but the time and place for that discussion wasn’t then and there.

You tried to tell him his job, you muttered about him being a liberal, and then you lectured him that God was watching.

All three things were really unintelligent things to do, and you got what you deserved as a result.

A smarter thing to do would have been to take his re-direction and then complained to the police that he wasn’t directing traffic like he should have been.

> yeah your a real conservative alright....

Yeah, I am. One who deals with cops — good and bad — all the time.

“I’ve worked as a prosecutor. Defendants always piss and moan about the unprofessionalism of the police, but I have yet to see any when I pull the tapes.

thats the main reason i wanted to fight it because i knew if the cop car had the video the audio would vindicate me...and show that i did not threaten the officer nor resist arrest... but i was broke and didn’t have 3000 dollars for a decent lawyer and my cousin’s alternative would get me out with no risks ( I still regret not fighting)

the exact police report stated that i said “ i’m going to kill you officer your dead if I don’t get you somebody else will”

which was not what i said all I said was that God sees everything and there is always karma

why didn’t the police officer write what i said??? because he knew that wasn’t enough to arrest me for

i’m getting angry now that i’m going back on my mind with every detail because i knew i would have won that case but to defend myself i would have basically not pay my bills for 3 months...

That may be so, and it may not be.

> Chevydude is 100% in the right and did nothing wrong.

I disagree. He may have been 100% right but he conducted himself 100% stupidly on that occasion and got himself 100% arrested when he fell into the trap set by an overly-officious cop who was just looking for someone like him to take out his frustrations on.

He was a smartass on three occasions. First he tried to tell the cop his job and that he should be directing traffic. Second he called him a liberal under his breath but was overheard. And third he told the cop that God was watching.

That’s plenty of provocation.

Cops deal with smartasses every day: it comes with the territory. Sometimes they get to give smartasses the gears as payback, which in this case happened to ChevyDude.

What happened wasn’t right but it was predictable.

He would have been much smarter to keep his mouth shut, smile politely, and complain later that the cop wasn’t directing traffic like he should have been, from the safety of a telephone booth.

Have you ever had the “pleasure” of watching an Alex Jones produced video?

I disagree with highway checkpoints myself but harrassing the cops is not only stupid, it’s unfair to the cop. Jones pulls up the the checkpoint and immediately starts screeching in their faces about them being the gestapo and crap like that. Trust me, most police officers behave far better than I would in that situation.

well sorry for being naive and believing that cops are there to protect and serve. i never raised my voice once and i was polite and trying to make the officer laugh...i was smiling the whole time I wasn’t trying to provoke anything I was merely questioning why he reacted in such a way which I have every right too...should i kept my mouth shut probably but why should we have to live in fear of the people who are there to “protect” us...now i’m not so naive

the only time i showed anger i thought i was out of the way and by myself and it wasn’t even directed at the officer as far as i was concerned i was going to my destination but the officer read my lips

This should change. They are servants of the people. When schoolyard bullies grow up they should work at McDonalds, not be police officers.

exactly the man lied on his police report and didn’t care that i could have went to jail for at least 6 months for such a serious charge

he made me sound like i was tony soprano on that police report as if i could send out a hit...

he knew if he just wrote what i really said that it was not enough to arrest me for

I think we should be clear on a big difference in police behavior.

When police are enforcing the law, they are doing their job and so tend to be reflective of your behavior. If you are polite, they will be polite; if you act the dork, they will treat you accordingly.

However, when police are used to raise money through dirty tricks like speed traps, multiple citations at traffic stops “looking for violations”, and other stuff, their morale tends to suffer, and they get belligerent when their obviously unethical behavior is pointed out to them.

The worst offenses occur in small towns that are reliant on ticketing strangers, but who over time turn to something close to piracy. Things like sabotaging automobiles for the repairs, blackmailing strangers after throwing them in jail, etc. They stop being satisfied with just getting a hundred dollar fine. They want thousands of dollars from their victims.

I heard of one such town in Georgia that had gone so hog wild that they tried to railroad a Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent they caught in a speed trap. They ended up beating him, throwing him in jail and confiscating his car. Bad idea. When they finally let him walk, literally, after getting a few thousand dollars, he hoofed it to the next town over and made a few phone calls.

The State Police and the GBI descended on that town like hundred tons of bricks and arrested nearly everyone in town. No sense of humor about these things.

But that is the exception. In most cases the city fathers want to use tricks like traffic cameras, these days, because a demoralized police force is asking for trouble. Even demanding ticket quotas is going to tick off a lot of cops, who resent being used, and used in a way that makes ordinary people distrust them.

> For arrest? For fining? That’s BS. That’s tyranny.

Sure it’s tyranny, and its wrong. But if you poke sharp sticks at a sleeping mad dog, don’t be too surprised if he bites you. Better to sneak past and hope he doesn’t notice.

If you provoke a cop, you might be 100% in the right But he can still wreck your day and inconvenience you more than you can inconvenience him. You can be 100% cuffed and 100% arrested and 100% charged and 100% cooling your heels in the lockup and for him that’s all in a day’s work. For you, that’s 100% inconvenient.

Now let’s say you want to get even. Unless you have lots of witnesses, it’s your word against his as a starting point. Over to you to make any advances on that.

It is 100% dumb to play against those odds, right or wrong.

Yup. But the time and place to try to change that is not when you are in their power. That just doesn’t work — as we’ve seen here.

I believe every word of it and know it happens and is getting worst everyday.

When you get to court they are going to believe the cop every time. Lawyers from outside our county wont even take cases here because they say the cops and DA’s lie.

I live in a small town and it is all about jobs, the people are about to erupt.

Excellent — lesson learned. When I was in my early 20’s I got into a situation at a US Border Crossing, all because a mate of mine I was traveling with was a smartass and wouldn’t stop cracking jokes at the Border Guard.

To make a long story short we were detained, and then separated. I was questioned first, and I gave polite, short answers to the questions I was asked: difficult to do because I had been kept waiting in a uncomfortable un-airconditioned room for a couple hours.

When we had finished the guy behind the desk said “The United States Customs and Immigration and Naturalization Services do not have a sense of humor. I do not hire my agents for their sense of humor, they do not have to have one, and I do not want them having one. Do you know how many thousands of people they see each day? Each year? Now, if they had to crack jokes and smile and laugh with every smartass — like your friend — that tried to cross our border, it would drive them nuts. So they don’t have to. And I won’t let them.”

I was let go. My smartass mate was let go sometime long afterwards. He didn’t want to talk about it.

> the only time i showed anger i thought i was out of the way and by myself and it wasn’t even directed at the officer as far as i was concerned i was going to my destination but the officer read my lips

Most cops get to be really good at reading lips. So now you know.

And Welcome to the FRee Republic!
