Its official: Marian Robinson, the 71-year-old mother-in-law of President-elect Barack Obama, will be moving into the White House, transition officials said on Friday.
In fact, Mrs. Robinson is already in town, helping to smooth the familys personal transition as Mr. Obama, his wife, Michelle, and their two daughters prepare for new lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

The Obama girls aren't teens. They're in 2nd and 5th grade. The truth is that the Pres. and First Lady attend many official events both together and separately. Rather than get babysitters or a nanny, they decided it was best, at least for a while, to provide some continuity to their young daughters during this huge transition in their lives by having grandma close by to watch them.
I'd love to know why people find this so objectionable. The "Sanford & Son" references, HUD references, "Jeffersons" lyrics, et al are giving me some inkling. It's not a pretty sight here these days.
Behind every successful man, there’s a very surprised mother-in-law.
I made no such reference.....don't try and turn my post racial.
I wasn’t referring to your post. Others on these threads have made those comments.
Give her that job so she won’t be freeloading off the Gov (us) dime.
“Granny is one extra full time resident versus a visitor like almost all other POTUS extended family members were in recent years.”
That remains to be seen, I’d say. She says she doesn’t know how long she’ll stay and she still has a home in Chicago. And I seriously doubt she’s hurting for cash.
“Stay safe ,sorry if I offended it was not my intent, hope yer well, sorry to be argumentative, just my opinion.”

No problem. Same from me.
I did my "research" a little too quickly. Apparently Jenna Welch has stayed at the White House for weeks at a time on a number of occasions but that probably should not count as living there.
Interesting objections. Usually we applaud a family that takes care of or takes in a mother rather than parking her someplace with a cold heart.
She was begged bky Michelle who wanted her there. There are two kids who are making what has to be the hardest transition to living in a mansion with servants, etc.
A grandmother will be a good influence, will do what families do, chip in and help each other.
If it were my daughter facing this, I would volunteer to be there for my grandchildren.
Seems anything O does is met with jeers and rude remarks and a lack of understanding that he has a family and does some of the very same things any of us would do. We don’t like him but this personal stuff is really unusual fodder to criticize him on.
