[history]
Actor Mickey Rourke sympathises with U.S. President George W. Bush - insisting he doesn't know how any politician could have successfully navigated America after the 9/11 attacks on New York.
The Hollywood tough-guy spoke out about his political views in a candid interview with Britain's GQ magazine, and admits he doesn't understand why so many people blame Bush for a string of world issues - including Islamic fundamentalism and terrorism in the West.

"I know you've deported one or two of them, but it seems crazy. I think there is worse to come, something terrible will happen to either America or the U.K., or France even. I don't think these fundamentalists should be allowed to talk all this crap, and brainwashing these young kids."Oh, Mickey you're so fine!

He tells the publication, "President Bush was in the wrong place at the wrong time, I don't know how anyone could have handled this situation. ... "It's too easy to blame everything on one guy. These are unpredictable, dangerous times, and I don't think that anyone really knows quite what to do."Uh, oh, Mickey! You're just now getting out of Hollywood's doghouse, and talking truth and common sense is a sure way to get put back in... /g

...Interesting. He deserves a kudo for being immune to BDS though.

Is it just me, or does the headline say something completely different than the article?

Refreshing to see someone speak with common sense and without a political motive.

I watched Pope of grenwich village other night, again; always liked Rourke.

"he was taken aback by the freedom of speech allowed in the U.K. " Oh, please.
I think you are taking him out of context here. Earlier, he talked about how the fundies are "allowed to preach hate on the street corner" after "a bus was blown up".
I think he meant "how do the U.K. people not shut them up after something like that".
Just my thought.

I know nothing of this guy. He could either really think that 9/11 presented such challenges that any President would have struggled in such time (Bush did the best anyone could), or he could be trying to lower expectations for Øbama (No one, even The One™ could handle this).

"Refreshing to see someone speak with common sense and without a political motive."Isn't it though? I can't imagine how he's survived in Hollywood for so long.

Well, he starts out by saying he doesn’t understand why everyone blames all the issues on the world on President Bush, so I would guess it’s the former.

The correct answer is that the way freedom of speech is enforced in Britain is shameful.
Because there is no First Amendment in the UK, extreme speech can be regulated, but the authorities use these regulations to punish Christians while ignoring Muslim hate speech. The double standard is appalling.

I wasn’t criticizing Rourke, but the way the writer wrote that line. Rourke was not taken back by “freedom of speech”.

My vote goes to Marisa Tomei for best actress. How many women could pull that off at 44 years old?
