The microfiche for the first part of 1939 is quite dark. I don't know if that is due to original over exposure or deterioration from age. It lightens up over time but it will be less than optimal for a while. I figured out a way to get better copies from the machine but not until mid-February. If it gets too bad I will transcribe an article here and there.

While the police in New York insisted that the curfew law for bars would be enforced as strictly as on any other Saturday night, Hoboken, that oasis for beer drinkers during prohibition, sought to catch the late trade by announcing that its bars would be open until 5 A. M.

I hope they all had designated drivers.

I see the media was sometimes as bad then as now. “Two of first eight coal miners rescued were dead”. I say then that they were not rescued, only recovered.

I was just purusing aroung on a WWII database and as the 1st comes to a close I ran across these things and found it interesting. Check this out.

Strasbourg (Pocket Battleship) Commissioned 1 January 1939 in France

A-31 Vengeance (2-seat Dive Bomber) Maiden Flight 1 January 1939 in United States

Ki-45 Toryu ("Dragon Slayer" Fighter) Maiden Flight 1 January 1939 in Japan

Model 167 Maryland (Bomber) Maiden Flight 1 January 1939 in United States

SM.82 Marsupiale (Transport/Night Bomber) Maiden Flight 1 January 1939 in Italy

Busy day. And all I did today was get the Christmas lights down.
