Perfect graphics for that poem. The blue brings out the loneliness and cold that one would picture of a wolf in winter. Thanks to all. FH

Good afternoon, Conor .... geeze, I guess it is afternoon on that other coast. :)

Everything is great .... Marissa is out of school for one more week. Things should settle down to normal next Monday. We have been working on her multiplication tables.

Have a wonderful week.

Winter Sunsets

  There is something about the winter
That truly warms from outside in
I mean the colorful skies that
Seem to erase all sadness, all sin

Reds and yellows and oranges
Like a famous artist would paint
So captivating, I’ll tell you
As special as a godly saint

You can see the dark of objects
The windmill you love so
The trees in semi darkness
Stand out as the sunset glows

The old barn way out yonder
Sure does look mighty pretty
Can you imagine not having sunsets?
Oh my, that would be such a pity

So even though it’s cold outside
So much beauty you still get
There is nothing quite like
Those wonderful winter sunsets!

Q: Why does it take longer to build a blonde snowman than a regular one?

A: You have to hollow out the head.

~~~~~~~~~~~
We purchased an old home in Northern New York State from two elderly sisters. Winter was fast approaching and I was concerned about the house's lack of insulation. "If they could live here all those years, so can we!" my husband confidently declared.
One November night the temperature plunged to below zero, and we woke up to find interior walls covered with frost. My husband called the sisters to ask how they had kept the house warm. After a rather brief conversation, he hung up.
"For the past 30 years," he muttered, "they've gone to Florida for the winter."
GATHER ROUND THE OLD CAMPFIRE
All I bring is this I sing, songs to soothe our wandering;
faith that sees in flowing Time, a reason and a rhyme.
Across the mountains, over the seas, through the forests and wide prairies;
past city lights and tropic isle, Faith that warms like a lover's smile.
There are many doubts and many wrongs, that are not touched by a Pilgrim's songs,
but a Wayfarer's heart may find some ease, in pausing shared, and melodies.
Stars look down on Winter's night. Birds fly home in Winter flight.
A cold wind blows. The Singer sings - “Down the Road lies another Spring !”
Another Spring; another morning. Another Autumn; another warning.
Another Winter wind will blow. Seeds will sleep ‘neath Winter snow.
Brisk March winds will wake the seed. April's rains will answer need.
May will bring forth fruit and flower. Lover's stroll through Summer's hour.
Autumn brings a golden glow. In sky and field creatures know,
it's time to yield, prepare for cold, and pay the cost in Autumn gold.
Winter has a steely gaze; walks in silence through the days,
and yet prepares a wondrous thing, the silent seed of another Spring.
Oh gather round the old Campfire,
let us spend a quiet hour.
Let us share a memory time,
and a reason in a rhyme !
Perfect graphics for that poem.
Perfect poem for that graphic, fish hawk. Thank you.
BTW, you wrote a poem several years ago that I wish I had saved when I read it and now I don't know where it was that I did read it. It was so beautiful and moving....and sensual. It was about a woman cooking at her kitchen stove. Do you know the one? I would love to read it again, if you have it. I would be so grateful if you could freepmail it to me. If not, I will keep searching for it. It may be on an old thread from years ago.
Have a wonderful day. It is freezing cold in not-so-sunny California. I can only imagine how wonderful the warm sun feels in Maui. You are one lucky dude, fish hawk. LOL
Thank you all for words and illustration in this composition.
Most recently on wolves, I watched a PBS special “The Wolf that Changed America.” Kind of a pretentious title, but I like this Doug Smith guy, and love Lobo.
Inevitably, there is romanticization and historical revisionism but we can sort through that to the essence.
