Beleaguered Americans may have to trim the size of their Christmas tree this year or cut back on gifts to afford one, but few will do without the holiday centerpiece no matter how bad the economy. Industry insiders from tree farmers to people like Rick Rusin -- who sells trees in the corner of a small shopping mall parking lot in the western Chicago suburb of Geneva -- say that while consumers are tightening budgets, for them it's business as usual.

The 500 Christmas trees he has to sell for about $10 per foot stand here in several inches of snow waiting for new owners. Despite bright sunshine it is bitterly cold, and Rusin is cheerful, not least because he still has this seasonal work after recently losing a full time job in a warehouse.
So...they're bitter and clinging to Christmas trees? Did Obama write this?
God Bless our Troops!!
Merry Christmas!
Ten dollars a foot is pretty steep. Of course this is Geneva, IL.
My old 6 foot Scotch pine fakey is up and shining for the 36th Christmas...
I bought it for $4...
We took it overseas with us too..
Good thing because the real ones in the BX were $100
The tree still looks good with all its decades old homemade, school made, Sunday school made treasures
:)
I paid $29.00 at home depot for my tree. It’s actually a lovely 8 ft spruce...very nice shape.
6.5 footers are $39 at Home Depot in central florida here. whats this $10/foot coming from?
we got ours from a private grower who rents part of sears parking lot for 34.95 6.5 foot Noble fir
At all times, Reuters clings to it's anti-American, anti-Christian, anti-capitalist agenda.
Obama: They cling to their guns and their religion.
That is pretty cheep for rent on a Sears parking lot.
Cling? Really.
The last snow knocked down some pretty big branches from our white pines. Could just bring one of them in, but the kids wouldn’t go for it. “The shape’s all wrong.”
If I had the patience for it, we could have garlands galore and pine arches in every doorway - Christmas de luxe. But I don’t. More snow tomorrow, more branches down.
If you plant white pines, cut ‘em down by the time they’re 20 feet high or so.
When I do put up a Christmas tree, it’s an artificial one. It’s easier to manage.
Some are even putting statues of Oprah’s Choice in the nativity scenes and around the trees. Americans are like the boy in the Reagan story about the horse inside the manure! Hopelessly naive or even deceitful
