Vanity: Most Annoying Christmas Songs
The Radio

For several weeks now a few local radio stations have been playing Christmas music non-stop, and I love hearing the songs celebrating the season -- especially the traditional carols.
How can you help but feel better when you hear Nat King Cole's smooth voice singing "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire..." (The Christmas Song) or Bing Crosby wishing you a White Christmas with every Christmas card he writes. And when Mark Lowry asks Mary if she knew that her baby boy would one day walk on water, it gives me chills. My drive home from work from late November to late December is so much more peaceful and enjoyable as I hear so many cheerful and encouraging songs celebrating the nativity.
There are, however, a few annoying songs that seem to get a lot of play this time of year that prompt me to change the station as soon as they begin. Just the first few notes, before the lyrics even kick in, make me want to hurl, or lash out at the stupidity of the idiot that put the disc in the player.
So as a diversion from the more important issues of the day, please post the titles/artists of the songs of the season that induce the urge to vomit or cause you to change the station when you hear them.
Here are my top most annoying Christmas songs ever: 1. So This Is Christmas (War is over?) by John Lennon 2. Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time by Paul McCartney 3. Last Christmas I Gave You My Heart by Wham/George Michael 4. Santa Baby by Madonna

By and large Christmas songs are atrocious. Special mention has to go to any Rudolf song
I always enjoyed the little-played goof versions. Someone had one that was a spoof of Rudolph. It was Randolf the Brown-nosed Reindeer. (He was just as fast as Rudolf - just couldnt stop as quick.)
Also enjoyed just about any Ray Stevens Christmas songs
If I hear Holly Jolly Christmas one more time I think Ill puke blood.
To: Who dat?
If I hear Holly Jolly Christmas one more time I think Ill puke blood. I feel the same way about the static playist of 50 songs on classic rock stations.
I can handle the music of the era but there is more than just Money, Stairway To Heaven, Freebird, et al in these bands' catalogs. Got burned out on these songs 20 years ago.

Get out your Bibles and check. Mary knew that she would give birth to a son, Christ the Lord, that he would be a savior to his people, and He would be known as the Son of God. She knew nothing more, other than it was God’s will.
She certainly didn’t know the details mentioned in the song.

She certainly didnt know the details mentioned in the song. That may be so, but she knew them a while before the songwriter of this religious kitsch did!

Ah c’mon don't you recognize that the song is talking to Mary at the nativity??? NOT 30-some years hence!
To: ROLF of the HILL COUNTRY
OK, OK, you’re right, though I was really thinking not of 30 years later but 2030.

My votes for least favorite:
- Christmas Shoes (I'm sorry, but sad music has no place at Christmas)
- Pretty Paper (see above)
- Merry Christmas Darling (never did really go for the Carpenters)
- All I Want for Christmas Is You (Mariah Carey - nuff said)
- Same Old Lang Syne (Dan Fogelberg - it happened on Christmas Eve, but that was as far as it went)
- Any leftwing $#!+, such as Happy Xmas War is Over, My Grownup Christmas List, and Someday at Christmas (sad thing about that one is that on that same album, Stevie Wonder also turned in a kickass version of Silver Bells)
- Dishonorable mention - Anything off The Phil Spector Christmas Album
There are more, but those lead the list.

Y'all need to tune in BostonPete.com and OJ Sikes who usually plays cowboy western music but is playing cowboy western Christmas music which is great. Never heard many, well, most of the songs. Roy and Dale singing Christmas on the Plains is one of my new favorite ones.

I have heard it and it is great.
On the other hand, I have no idea how Madonna made it. It certainly wasn’t because she could sing. It must be the PR. She sucks.

I really despise ‘Merry Little Christmas’. Christmas is NOT little!
