Rape suspect still at-large

Local law enforcement officials have placed a Laurel man being sought in connection with last month’s rape of a 12-year-old on the National Crime Information Center.

Officials with the Jones County Sheriff’s Department are continuing to look for Gustavo Dominquez Preza, a 22-year-old Hispanic male, who resided at 1112 North 15th Ave., Laurel.

Preza was initially being sought by the Laurel Police Department in connection with kidnapping and rape of a 12-year-old.

Detective Kevin Flynn with the Laurel Police Department said officers were contacted on Sunday, Nov. 16, by South Central Regional Medical Center regarding a 12-year-old Hispanic female reportedly kidnapped from her residence and raped.

Flynn said the female was taken from her residence in the 1110 block of North 15th Ave.

“As of now, we have discovered that the child was taken into the county and raped by the suspect,” Flynn said. “The victim was admitted to South Central Regional Medical Center, where she was listed in serious condition following the incident.”

Flynn said the 12-year-old victim is out of the hospital and has recovered from the incident. He said Preza is still being sought by officials.

“We are still looking for him,” the detective said. “However, now based on statements and evidence obtained, we don’t think it was a true kidnapping.”

Well, this and the recent murder of a Laurel teacher in this once still and quiet small town gives me more answers to those who ask me, “Why do you carry a gun all the time?” (lawfully I might add.)
It is getting really sad though, I am saddened further each day as I see the direction this nation as a whole is taking.
Sooner, rather than later I am afraid, WE are going to have to make our stand and try to bring our country back from this brink. And what scares me the most is, I am not sure the people have the guts, courage and fortitude it will take.
