As per the request of many, here's a holiday gathering place for FReeper dog lovers...grab some hot cider, have a seat in front of the fire with your faithful companion curled up at your feet and tell your dog stories here, share your pics, and enjoy!
This is a friendly gathering, and is NOT the place to bash pit bulls, argue about whether dogs were created or evolved, etc. Those that can't keep a muzzle on it will end up in the doghouse.
Although this is primarily for members of the FReeper Doggie Ping List, non-members who happen to stray in will be welcome and are also invited to post pics of your iguanas, ferrets, exotic fish or whatever other furred, feathered or finned companions you'd care to share with us.
As some of you know, I've been working back in the northeast for a few months and found some time in my schedule to make a pilgrammage to New Skete Monastery on Saturday morning. I'll look forward to all the pics and pet stories tomorrow evening when I get back!
Enjoy!!

Thank you for sharing your wonderful story and for making my screen all blurry.
Upstate NY is so beautiful and I am so glad you were able to get a little peace from your journey....
I would love to get a New Skete pup.....you say it is a 2 year waiting list, that could work for me....
So are you getting a New Skete pup?

Thanks - she is a beauty! She is also the friendliest dog ever - she wants to meet everybody and every dog so its hard to add her behavior to your theory and as she's female as well there may be less aggressive tendencies in general.
The only person in danger with Sophie would be someone between her and her dinner! ;-)

Pitstop, great name! Our youngest is named Hoot. He is a very small Jack Russel and he is a “hoot”, of course squirt would fit him just as well. heh!

As I understand it, the waiting list averages 2-3 years...and right now the going rate is $2.5-3K per puppy, so it's a little beyond my budget. Even if money were no object, right now my work and travel would preclude me from having the time to be fair to the puppy.
The best solution would probably be for me to simply join the monastery ;-)

Thank you! I posted two videos. The first video is Kirk Olsen, “Circus Dog.” The second video is Randy Newman, “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” (from Toy Story).

It’s the most stressed out season of the year.

No harm, no foul.

He got the name because he used to pee about every thirty minutes and we figured it would take forever to get from our place in Aransas Pass where we got him back to Houston.

"Everything about him was like Timber. I closed my eyes and ran my fingers around his head. The texture of his hair, the shape of his skull, the ruler-straight nose that projected straight from his face, then dropped in a perfect wedge to the tip of his nose. I was transported immediately to a thousand distant days and places when I'd held that head before, and before I opened my eyes, a tear rolled down my face. I was home." Joe, Thank you for this wonderful thread and your beautiful, and wonderful, "New Skete Pilgrimage" post.
I don't know about the others, but I suspect that many of them were like me, with a tear rolling down my face too when I read your experience with Ziko. Each of us, who have loved and lost a best friend such as your Timber, know exactly the feelings you were experiencing, because we would have felt the same under similar circumstances. I'm so very happy for you, and I'm thankful that you shared your wonderful blessing in this post, and allowed us to experience it vicariously.

I was simply overwhelmed with joy yesterday, and indeed, was very blessed by my experience at the monastery. It would have been selfish not to share it with all my fellow dog-lovers here at FR.

I can understand the joy. It does look and sound like opening a Christmas card and stepping inside.

The same reason that I said our little one could have been name Squirt just as easily as Hoot. He is one of those little dogs who pees when someone he doesn't know very well picks him up. He is a year old now and he is doing better.

I have one of those! (toy fox terrier). Also a 250lb. English Mastiff. Theyre quite the team.
LOL My team is a bit smaller-6.5 lb. TFT and a 25 lb.Beagle...of course the TFT thinks she's bigger than the beagle!
