License Plates for the Internet - The Blueprints for Obama's Assault on the Internet
The report's recommendations emphasize taking away cybersecurity from DHS in order to create a special department to oversee cybersecurity. It recommends ending the division between civilian and national security systems. And calls for establishing "international norms" when it comes to the internet.
And it focuses a good deal on identity verification, not just for Federal employees, but for ordinary Americans as well.
The report urges a move away from passwords, and toward physical identity verification, via a device that would verify an individual's identity. And calls for "government issued credentials" to be used by consumers.
I wish there had been someone on the top of the Republican ticket that had been worth voting for. I voted for McCain/Palin ticket because of Gov. Palin, but McCain was a lousy candidate. He completely failed to articulate how he was better than Obama; his efforts to appear 'gentlemanly' undermined any possibility of focusing any real scrutiny on his opponent. When people ask 'was McCain really any better', it's discouraging not being able to answer with a strong affirmative.
If this were to happen many Americans would discontinue their internet service. Great news for the economy.
When McCain announces publicly that Obama is an honorable man, what reason could any of us offer for people not to vote for Obama? Among other things, McCain's statement means that at least one of the following statements must be true:
Wait till he tries to go after people’s “adult” website visits and tries to track them. I dont care for that sort of thing. But he going to tick off a majority of males in this country by having to personally identify theirselves before surfing their favorite websites. IMHO
It was almost as if McCain threw the election. Keep in mind that cross-over voters in New Hampshire, Democrats, some from Vermont, gave him the first leg up. The Democrats selected our candidate. Then consider all the voter fraud with ACORN and the other Democrat associated groups who salted the voter rolls and it easy to see that the election was stolen.
I suspect that he will choose not to go after those types of sites in any real way. That isn’t the purpose of the controls. They will target some extreme sorts of sex sites for show purposes, but political hate speech will be in the crosshairs. That is what is going on elsewhere.
Perverts need not panic!
what exactly is political “hate speech”? when you disagree with Obaba?. But then I repeat myself
Political or social ‘Hate speech’ is whatever they decide it is. That sort of nonsense is going on in the Universities and colleges right now and it is up to the ‘offended’ to determine if its hateful.
they could make it a “hate crime” to express opinions against socialism, or abortion, etc. Interesting times indeed.
I’m so disgusted as to where we are heading.
I don’t for minute think any of the 64 million sheeple will have a clue before it is too late.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they thought it would be a great idea.
I have cooled relationships with several otherwise intelligent friends because they voted for this traitor.

The 2000 election was my breaking point.
The 2000 election proved to me that a Democrat was either too stupid or evil to be a friend. Since 2000 I have completely ended all friendships with Democrats and keep contact with Democrat relatives to the absolute minimum.
Mind-numbed Robot

That is actually similar to what happens before the outbreak of civil conflict, or even a civil war. I don’t think the left has any idea what the results of their intolerance might be!
I’m past the anger, but Ive avoided socializing with liberals all my life, so there’s no change for me now except to hunker down and weather the storm.
There is one aspect of this that gives me optimism, and that’s the fact that the most demanding and unforgiving soul is the American liberal. There’s no way in hell Eclair can get away with continuing to lie to these people. When they turn, it will be harsh and vengeful. Eclair has no idea who he got into bed with.
Yeah. It’s MAY be happening. I hope not, but all the steps needed for a takeover are being slowly put into place. Worrisome!
Something tells me those newspapers, and magazeens up for sale right now (may) become more valuable in the future (if you know what I mean), and if it helps answer your question: (Hint: if the internet is regulated where are you going to get your news & information, beside second hand)?
If they hand down controls on the Internet, especially new ways to identify individuals, it will come around to bite them in the arse, since they are the kings of cyber-organizing, as well as the main purveyors of virulent garbage commentary.
Excellent analysis. Thanks for posting this.
It always disturbed me to hear McCain say that Obama was honorable. I put it down to Senate collegiality at the time, but I was unable to shake the feeling that something was seriously wrong. You nailed it.
IMO, if McCain thought Obama was not honorable, but felt compelled to be “polite” or “honorable” he could have just refrained from making the remark. Either he believes it or he’s lying.
Clueless or a liar.
(You see, I am rejected your first possibility. For the sake of completeness, it was necessary for you to list it as a possibility, but there is no evidence to support it and plenty of evidence to refute it.)
I have talked to several young and idealistic (and naive) people who think this is just fine. They think it should be against the law to say “mean” things.
Of course, they are totally oblivious to the “mean” things that the networks spew on a regular basis regarding Republicans, conservatives, Christians, people who work hard, gun owners, ....
Duct tape. Need more duct tape.
I see two major issues for Internet freedom. One is freedom of political speech and the other is freedom for porn. The left wants to control the political speech, but maintain the freedom for porn. In general, the right wants the opposite.
The silver lining to this cloud will be watching the shocked lefties when their freedoms get taken away from them.
It is reassuring to realize that even if the Internet were severely crippled, millions of us have printers and ink and copying machines. They will have a tough time taking away our printers and ink!
