90 Percent of U.S. Infant Formula May Be Contaminated with Melamine; FDA Abruptly Declares Chemical Safe for Babies

(NaturalNews) Up to 90 percent of the infant formula sold in the United States may be contaminated with trace amounts of melamine, the toxic chemical linked to kidney damage, according to recent tests. The FDA's test results, which the agency hid from the public and only released after the Associated Press filed a Freedom of Information Act request, showed that Nestle, Mead Johnson and Enfamil infant formula products were all contaminated with melamine.

The FDA has no new science to justify its abrupt decision declaring melamine to be safe

What’s the deal with this idiocy? The FDA says melamine is safe and lo and behold, a couple of weeks later we find out there’s melamine in formula. Is this to forestall lawsuits against the formula manufacturers? ‘Melamine is safe, you can’t sue.’?

I realize everyone can’t breast feed, but I sure would go this route for a newborn before I trusted the FDA or the formula folks anymore.

We discussed this the other day in a related post, but just for the record, a few reports surfaced about a year or more ago showing that protein powders and additives from China (whey, soy, albumin) were contaminated with melamine.

Presumably anything using these Chinese protein additives would also be contaminated.

How’s that for truth in labeling?

“Made in USA” DOES NOT mean “No Chinese food additives.”

Check out the wholesale/bulk offerings on alibaba.com and be VERY afraid.

I'm sure the formula I give my baby is safe. We go out of our way to get the good stuff from China.

I don’t have kids and I my experience with them is limited, so if this question seems dumb... well, that’s the reason.

Why use baby formula? Isn’t breast milk free and healthy?

FWIW, some women are physically unable to fully provide for their child's nutrition via breast-feeding.

Huh?

*Nearly all* baby formulas use some kind of protein additive, and one should be concerned about the origin of those additives.
